One of Five Suspected Car Thieves Identified

MAZATLÁN._Only one of the five suspected car thieves who were killed by agents of the State Ministerial Police Friday afternoon near the community of El Chilillo was identified by the public prosecutor.

Staff of the Deputy Attorney General for Justice in the South reported that the deceased's name was Jose Manuel Soto Cortez, alias "El Chapo", 41, who was from the city of Rosario.

The source noted that with a more extensive investigation, they will know what caused the confrontation.

He stressed that early inquiries indicate that the deceased belong to an alleged organized car theft gang which operated in the port, but the stolen cars were channeled to the hills of La Noria and Concordia, to the north of Mazatlan.
