US Customs and Border Protection reports its largest fentanyl bust ever, seizing 254 pounds of the opioid in Arizona

WAPO By Associated Press January 31 at 1:21 PM

NOGALES, Ariz. — US Customs and Border Protection reports its largest fentanyl bust ever, seizing 254 pounds of the opioid in Arizona.

PHOENIX — The Latest on a record fentanyl seizure at the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona (all times local):

11:30 a.m.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say they have made their biggest fentanyl bust ever, capturing nearly 254 pounds (114 kilograms) of the deadly synthetic opioid in Arizona.

The Nogales CBP Port Director Michael Humphries said Thursday that the drug was seized Saturday from a tractor-trailer carrying produce from Mexico after it was stopped for inspection at the border crossing.

Agents also seized an additional 2.2 pounds (1 kilogram) of fentanyl pills and a large cache of methamphetamine.

The Mexican man driving the truck was arrested.

9:15 a.m.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials in Arizona say they’ve made their biggest fentanyl bust ever.

The agency says it will provide details Thursday during a late morning news conference at the Mariposa border crossing in Nogales, Arizona.

Authorities say illicit fentanyl in recent years has become the biggest source of fatal overdoses in the United States.

Mexican traffickers are increasingly smuggling the drug into the United States, mostly hidden in northbound passenger vehicles crossing at ports of entry in the Nogales and San Diego areas.

Law enforcement says the illicit version of the painkiller is now seen mostly as a white powder that can mixed with heroin for an extra kick and as blue pills that are counterfeits of prescription drugs like oxycodone.

CNN reports that a quarter of a milligram, or 0.25 milligrams, can be fatal

1 pound = 453,592 grams
453,592grams  X 254lbs. = (115,212,368 x 4) overdoses

Wow enough to kill the whole US so no future shipments necessary.Conspiracy theory would be (at least the thought crossed my mind):what enemy is out to get us?Could it be Iran or China or possibly someone else?

that drug is pretty similar to fent   and you can buy it online legally because of the molecule. They have several warehouses in the USA where they stash probably several pounds of that stuff.

I can only wonder how many shipments equal or larger made it pass this same week.  Fox News had some coverage on it, was a watermelon 18 wheeler.

The lucrative part of this is how little it cost and how large the profit margin is.

The whole "one dose can kill 1 peson" therefore 124,000 doses can kill that many people, I have reported on that too, and the language has become a little inflammatory and over the top.  When I wrote about fentanyl a few times, I used the same, to convey the collateral damage on each shipment, but no one is meant to be killed. It's the cost of doing business.

Nor is there any logical or reasonable way thousands of people would unintentionally be exposed to fentanyl. and even if there were, that they would instantly die from it.  Esp. if not injected or snorted.  It has become a panicked and fear mongering narrative to me.
