6/16/11...Sorry for lagging its one of my busiest time of year as school is preparing to close..but I wanted to post the new body count for Durango..as 236there was reporting of higher numbers in Durango but this is the " official" count..as they quietly unearthed more bodies..and wow WTH is happening in Mty?  I am on pins and needles, I have two blind children there going through medical tests, could not have picked a worse time.......B

MEXICO CITY — Mexico's government says police have unearthed 429 bodies since April from a series of clandestine graves in the northern states of Durango and Tamaulipas. Both states are wracked by drug violence.

Federal Attorney General Marisela Morales says police have found 236 bodies in Durango's state capital, which is also named Durango. She says many could be victims of a battle for power within the Sinaloa drug cartel.

Morales says an additional 193 corpses have been found in the town of San Fernando in Tamaulipas state. Officials say most of those were Mexican migrants heading to the United States who were kidnapped off buses and killed by the Zetas drug cartel.

The attorney general released the new body count Tuesday.

And this regarding the mass graves found in Mty:

Mexico nabs kingpin linked to mass graves

15/06/2011 19:53

Mexican soldiers detained a reputed boss of the Los Zetas drug cartel whom authorities suspect of being behind the burial of several victims in clandestine graves.

Raul Martinez Lugo and an associate ignored soldiers who ordered them to stop on the Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo highway, in the northeastern state of Nuevo Leon, the defense department said.

The suspects tried to escape by entering a hotel located on the side of the highway, near the town of Escobedo, the statement said, adding that the soldiers detained Martinez Lugo and three other men inside the establishment and seized six long guns, quantities of marijuana and cocaine and two vehicles.

Authorities suspect the 37-year-old Martinez Lugo is responsible for mass graves discovered in Salinas Victoria, Nuevo Leon, on June 8, the defense department said.

The spokesman for the Nuevo Leon Security Council, Jorge Domene, confirmed the discovery of charred human remains in Salinas Victoria but thus far authorities have been unable to determine the number of victims.

The defense department's statement added that Martinez Lugo controls the Nuevo Leon towns of El Carmen, Salinas Victoria, Abasolo, Hidalgo and Mina for Los Zetas, considered Mexico's most violent criminal organization.

Martinez Lugo was arrested in 1998 in the United States for marijuana possession and sentenced to three years in prison. After completing his sentence in 2001, he was deported to Mexico.

Early this month, the rival Gulf drug cartel put up a sign accusing Los Zetas of targeting the families of Gulf personnel.

Mass graves containing the remains of victims of drug-related violence have been found in recent years in different parts of Mexico, including the northwestern state of Durango, where 236 bodies were found earlier this year, and in San Fernando, a city in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas, where almost 200 bodies were unearthed this spring.

More than 15,000 people died in drug-related violence in Mexico last year, while nearly 40,000 have perished since President Felipe Calderon militarized the struggle against the country's cartels shortly after taking office in December 2006.

5/27/11..  UPDATE AND NEW STUFF.  4 MORE BODIES IN THE JARDINES, NEW FOSAS FOUNDS, 8 TONS OF MOTA FOUND, AND MORE THAN 5000 ARRESTS IN DGO SINCE JAN 1.

Minister of Security announced that the search for bodies in The Jardines has halted as all the land has been searched there for bodies.  However there is a discovery of another 2 fosas not reported was the local of those two nor when the search would commence.

5 bodies in total were found in Jardines bringing a total of at least 223 bodies including 1 Sinaloa Policeman found in the recent discovery of five.

5000 arrested for various crimes in Durango nin 5 months
Announced was the arrests of over 5000 people since Jan.  None of these arrest were org crime related simply " normal crimes"  found in every city such as alcohol and drug use, theft etc.  But it does exemplify the lawlessness that surrounds the city.  In Mexico however nothing is quite as it seems and I would have liked to have known how many convictions if any transpired.

Mexico only convicts 1% of detainments (arrests.

8 Tons of MJ Discovered in Durango..The Ministry of National Defense, through the Third and Tenth Military Region Military Zone, said troops belonging to the territorial control arrested seven suspected drug traffickers with 7.9 tons of marijuana.

During ground surveys in the municipality of Tepehuanes and the colony's land, three vehicles were seen acting suspiciously circling as they marked the high and conduct a review were seized firearms, drugs and vehicles.

In a statement the agency announced the arrest of seven people and secured in the same operation, two rifles, five handguns, eight magazines of various calibers, 80 cartridges of different calibres, seven thousand 900 kilograms of marijuana and three vehicles.

5/23/11...Durango; NARCO CONTROLLED TERRITORYis that the reason no one seems to care?

Escalated violence...In recent months, at least two local groups sought to break off from Sinaloa and control the drug shipment routes through Durango for themselves, the official said. A third group, known as the "M's," remained loyal to Sinaloa boss Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.

a leading member of the "M's" and the fourth-highest ranking Sinaloa operator in Durango, Bernabe Monje Silva, was arrested by federal police on March 27 and led police to the grave sites, the police officials say. (the graves began excavation 5 days later)

Sinaloa cartel had seemed immune to the kind of missteps, mindless violence and internal power struggles that have plagued other drug gangs, to the extent that most Mexicans believed the Sinaloa cartel was either exceedingly sophisticated or in cahoots with the government. But the portrait now emerging from the 219 corpses is of a cartel that is riven by internal cracks.

Jorge Chabat, a Mexican expert on the drug trade, said that while the Sinaloa cartel is one of Mexico's most stable gangs, it has had internal divisions, as witnessed several years ago when the Beltran Leyva brothers broke off to form their own cartel.

Chabat said disputes like the one in Durango "are part of the jockeying that goes on in the world of drug trafficking" and said the split will probably result in increased violence in Durango. Sinaloa and Zeta cartels had already been in a dispute for remote territory in Durango long dismissed as narco-land. Cartels grow marijuana and poppies in the secluded mountains, where outsiders don't go without military escorts and rumors have it that Sinaloa boss Guzman himself has been hiding.

The discovery in Durango, however, has been met with little more than a shrug and the swearing by neighbors that they never heard or saw anything unusual as assassins buried scores of bodies under city streets.

In fact, it can sometimes seem like the region was written off long ago as narco-controlled territory.  Off the record officials report the dead as cartel enemies,  kidnapped victims and police.  However on record the official word is " we do not know who the enemies are".

A woman selling used clothing near another mass grave three blocks away, where 17 bodies were found, said she had occasionally seen luxury vehicles drive by, but never noticed anything suspicious. She believes the victims were brought in, already dead, and quietly buried at night, protected by darkness and a pervasive cloak of fear.

"If anyone talks," she said, "they might get their head cut off."

Durango's Killing Fields: The Grave in the Garden

5/20/11..Another Fosa in Dgo City... Also here is a link to TIME whi is bragging they were the first on site...whatever..but it is a pretty good article and notice they report what I have been saying for a long time..."Like the Tamaulipas corpses, many of those found in Durango are believed to be innocents as well as mafiosos" (MAFIOSOS!) the part of DNA testing I have issue with especially since now the gov says for the majority of the bodies they cannot test.

State and federal authorities began work on a new fosa, the seventh in the city of  Durango this location in   fraccionamiento jardine durango where they exhumed remains of at least one person on the first day of work. rising the total to 219.  Please note this is one of the the areas the gov announced one week ago as having new fosas.

The clandestine grave is in the courtyard of the house of Petunia Street marked No. 120, facing a garden area, the site had been secured last Thursday, although the forensic work were not made until yesterday.
The story was sent early to me but I could not verify later on twitter folks on the ground were confirming it but I could not edit the tool was inactive.

Among the violence yesterday, a body on fire surounded by several vehicles also on fire...just another day in paradise

In another Durango news...At least 110 bodies destroyed forever can not be ID

The PGR reported that the agencies responsible for exhumation of the bodes found in the narcofosas, did not use appropriate methods to retrieve and perserve the remians causing permanent distruction and will be buried in mass grave..

Using equipment typicaly used for construction the bodies were shattered and destroyed. The lack of repsect and without using professional protocols the remains cannot be identified.  The use of bulldozers and backhoes left bodies a " tangled mess" .

OK so that's the ridiculous story from the Gov.  WHo BTW blames the state, when we know the feds timmediately took over the investigation.

This is totally expected as the feds have been hinting in one way or the other they will not be able to ID.  I have been reporting on the lack of DNA program and the families being turned away and shunned.

1.  DNA only requires a tiny amt of tissue, blood, skin, tooth, or hair.  their claims are without merit.
2.  The world was watching those bulldozers and DF just stood by?
3.  Government stated 300+ families came forth-then a couple days later it was 500+, and now they say
    " dozens"
4.  Gov first reported bodies up to 10 years old-then seven- then five- now 1 year.
5.  Preservation WAS done correctly wrapped bodies in refrigerated trucks should not " spoil" Jeeze James
Brown was in the damn cooler for 6 months!...

I do not know why, perhaps it is then the world will know it is not solely narcos in those fosas.

5/19/11CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG...THE PRISON COMMANDER WAS ONE OF THOSE KILLED LAST WEEK..PEOPLE OUTSIDE THE PRISON HEARD THE SHOOTOUT...BUT DON'T WORRY FOLKS THE PRES IS GOING TO FIX EVERYTHING...

Nine inmates were killed and 10 others wounded in a gunfight inside a prison in the northern Mexican state of Durango, an official told Efe Thursday.

The initial death toll was eight, but a ninth person died overnight, a spokesman for the state Public Safety Office said.

All state and federal security forces were put on alert at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday after shots were heard from inside the prison in Durango city, the state capital, according to a statement from the Public Safety Office.

The battle at the prison follows the discovery since early last month of 218 bodies buried in clandestine graves at various locations in the city.

In a meeting two days ago, President Felipe Calderon promised Durango Gov. Jorge Herrera Caldera "all the support necessary" in the "struggle for security."

The president also vowed to press "the investigations aimed at bringing to justice those responsible for the deaths of people found recently in clandestine graves."

Late update...Ovemex shared a report that the number may be at 218.  I could not confirm it but it is a good source so I am going with it.

The PDR gave a conference and oh my how things have changed.  After being criticized for the lack of DNA collection and other investigative tools that were used in Tamps, of which the gov declared a "lack of resources" to conduct such investigations. ..and they did state this afternoon 200 families had come forth and will be giving DNA...well just 4 hours later they are now saying 350 have now come forth.  and though i reported the gov stating there was no risk of infection or disease from bodies, that also has changed.  Another truck was brought in because moving the bodies could "result in infection"  I have no clue what they mean, and if done per standards and wrapped in 8 mil plastic and refrigerated there should be no problem whatsoever.  One wonders why they pile on the stress upon the poor citizens...and PDR announced the following is now in place and ready to use:

a number of experts in forensic anthropology, genetics, fingerprinting, forensic medicine and forensic field. This, with the aim that each sample is analyzed in a thorough to make sure and accuracy in identifying people.

I guess they found some resources...

5/14/11...

BODY TOLL 214
When I heard this Chief  survived and was taken to a private hospital, and they actually showed a foto of the hospital I thought...he is dead man walking.  How could this happen?  In the midst of CODE RED and heavy guard protection surrounding the hospital?  and they did not kill ONE of the gunman, nor did they apprehend even one of the killers.....This is a travesty of a sane and secure society.

Durango..Police Chief Killed in Hospital... By Buela Chivis

Despite an activated Code Red, which generates the mobilization of all elements of the police force, a survivor of an attack was murdered in his hospital bed.  Jesus Larralde Ramos, Chief Inspector of Investigations was shot to death by several gunman who entered the hospital "by force".   This was the second police commander killed in Durango in 24 hours.  In addition to the Head of Custodians (prison) whose headless corpse was discovered on Thursday.

In Durango there were 8 murders in 2 hours.  And I have not even begun to report on the NARCOFODOSAS daily total.  The macabre count of bodies pulled from the clandestine graves of Durango City has now reached 214.

There is a small amount of new information squeezed from the few official reports available, and reported in a very few media sources.  The Federal Police who initiated the investigation has now turned the operation over to the Staff of the Secretary of National Defense.  Reports reveal the there are several narcofosas to be discovered in some municipalities near the capital of Durango, thereby the death is expected to rise considerably.

In a statement released by the Secretary of Public Security, that a narcofosa located in the Valley Colony of Guadiana has been discovered resulting in the finding of several additional bodies.

The forensic medical service (SEMEFO) in Durango stated that there will be DNA testing and that over 200 families have come forth seeking missing relatives.  This contradicts information from the ground in Durango that reported no DNA bank was available to family members.  SEMEFO was questioned about this and they pointed to the lack of resources.  That is hard to accept since the the narcofosas in Tamps was conducted very differently with big shows of federal government involvement and expediency; transporting bodies to DF, DNA bank and communication with the families of missing persons.

The entire situation at Durango is so perplexing with little information made public, it has been a challenge to bring update information, not helped by a seemingly disinterested media.  How can that be?  214 bodies in one city, the largest quantity of bodies  EVER found in the Americas, and reporting is scarce.  I  am dumbfounded by that.

5/13/11NOTE FROM BUELA...THERE ARE TWO BODY TOTALS FROM YESTERDAY...206 AND 209.
THIS IS FROM MEXICO AND DIRECTLY FROM DURANGO.  I POSTED SIGLO DURANGO AS AN UPDATE YESTERDAY (SEE BELOW) BUT NOTICED ANOTHER SIGLO WEBSITE SAID 206.  I SUPPOSE IT DOESN'T MATTER IT WILL SURE RISE...

ANOTHER OFFICIAL WAS KIDNAPPED EARLY YESTERDAY,,,THE SAME DAY THE DECAPITATED BODY FOR THE PRISON CHIEF WAS FOUND (STORY BELOW FROM YESTERDAY)

IMO THE MOTIVE IS CRYSTAL CLEAR...  DURANGO IS NOW FLOODED WITH FED TROOPS BUT RUMORS ON THE GROUND THERE IS COMPLICITY BETWEEN CARTEL/FEDS.   FOR SURE THERE IS TO A DEGREE.  MEXICO IS ROTTEN TO THE CORE FOLKS.

<b>Here is the report from Durango regarding the abduction of yesterday and a pic of the victim at right:

Ricardo de Jesus Larralde Ramos, Commander of Investigation in Durango, was ambushed yesterday by a commando group in the afternoon hours, this ocurred in the area known as Domingo Arrieta.  Several police were injured in the attack.  Paramedics transferred the commander to the hospital, his medical status has not been reported other than he survived the attack.

A STATE PROSECUTOR REPORTED LAST NIGHT  THE DISCOVERY OF  eight additional bodies in clandestine graves; SEVEN ARE MEN AND WOMAN .. 3 part update

Mexico deputy prison governor decapitated in Durango The headless bodies were found on the same day as more corpses were discovered at a junkyard

Police in Mexico have found eight decapitated bodies in the northern state of Durango.

Among the dead was the deputy governor of Durango's prison, who had been abducted on Monday.

Gerardo Galindo's head was found next to a wall bearing a threatening message by a local drug gang.

Prison officials are increasingly being targeted by drug gangs, whose jailed members often continue to run their businesses from behind bars.

In February, the security chief of a prison in the northern city of Monterrey was murdered.

His dismembered body was found in a plastic box inside a car abandoned near the prison he worked at.

Officials have not yet identified the remaining seven bodies found in Durango.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The State Attorney's Office confirmed the discovery of eight more bodies in the narcofosa pit of the Valle del Guadiana colony, which now total 96 bodies found.  In addition to 13 located in the mountain town of Santiago Papasquiaro gives a total of 209 , found in the five graves.

In the last statement issued last night by the state agency, provided  that the eight bodies found  yesterday, were seven are men and one woman.

Since April 11 to date five graves have been found in the capital city of Durango,  and one of Santiago Papasquiaro, giving a total of 209 people.

The clandestine graves are located in the subdivision angels and Fuentes, in the colonies Vicente Suarez y Valle del Guadiana, and in the Rancho El Consuelo.

5/12/11...THE DURANGO COUNT NOW BREAKS ALL RECORDS FOR THE AMERICAS...AS 16 MORE BODIES ARE FOUND... ...decapitated body found of prison official kidnapped on Monday..head found elsewhere

The bodies of 16 people, including a prison official, were found in the past few hours in Durango city, the capital of the like-named northern Mexican state, prosecutors said Thursday.

Eight of the bodies were discovered in clandestine graves and the other eight, all of them headless, were found on city streets, the Durango state Attorney General's Office said.

Six "completely naked, decapitated" bodies were found at 5:30 a.m., with the six heads placed next to the corpses, the AG's office said.

"Two dead bodies, also decapitated," were found an hour later, but only one head was left with the bodies, prosecutors said.

"A wall with a 'narcomessage' on it" was spotted nearby, and the missing head, which belonged to deputy prison warden Gerardo Galindo Meza, was found on the ground under the message, the AG's office said.

Eight other bodies were found at a site in Durango city where army troops have exhumed 196 bodies in the past few weeks, state Public Safety Secretariat spokesmen told Efe.

The majority of the victims may have died in "settlings of scores" and kidnappings by drug traffickers, Durango Gov. Jorge Herrera Caldera said Wednesday.

The mass graves contain bodies from "confrontations between organized crime groups," Herrera said.

Four mass graves have been found since early April, but federal officials have provided few details about the killings.

The clandestine graves were found on April 4 at two sites in Durango city, with the majority of the bodies discovered in the state capital's Las Fuentes neighborhood.

The Sinaloa cartel, Mexico's oldest and largest drug trafficking organization, has been trying to gain control of Durango, the press reported.

Durango, one of the states most affected by drug-related violence, is reported to be the hiding place of Sinaloa cartel boss Joaquin "El Chapo" (Shorty) Guzman.

State and federal officials plan to start working in the next few days on a joint effort to identify the victims, the governor said.

The clandestine graves in Durango have now yielded more bodies than the mass graves in San Fernando, a city in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas, where 183 bodies have been unearthed.

Some gangs have resorted to using unusual methods to recruit gunmen because of the high casualties in the war being waged by rival drug traffickers for control of territory, the federal government says.

The incidents involving the buses may have been an attempt to recruit gunmen, investigators said.

The Sinaloa, Los Zetas and Beltran Leyva drug cartels may have been behind the killings in Durango, the press reported.

THANKS TO DURANGO1 WE HAVE AN UPDATE....READ OF WHO THESE VICTIMS ARE!  THAT CONFIRMS WHAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN PRIVATELY WRITING TO ME ABOUT..THESE WERE PEOPLE JUST LIKE THE TAMPS 72...REFUSED TO WORK FOR ZETAS...THAT WOULD MEAN ALL FOLKS INCLUDING MIGRANTS

MEXICO CITY (BNO NEWS) -- Mexican authorities on Tuesday informed that 20 more bodies were discovered in a mass grave located in the northern state of Durango, bringing the total to 190.
During the past month, Federal Police and Mexican Army have located dozens of bodies in mass graves in five different areas of the state, including four in the state's capital, Victoria de Durango.
The most recent discovery of 20 bodies were found at a residential area in the Valle del Guadiana neighborhood, in the municipality of Durango.

As local authorities continue excavating different areas of the state, which have been confirmed as mass grave sites, legislators and business leaders have harshly criticized the lack of preventive security measures on behalf of federal and state authorities.

State political leader Juan Carlos Gutierrez Fragoso, of the National Action Party (PAN), stressed that finding mass graves and bodies was not enough, as authorities must find those behind the killings to recover the state's social calm.

Gutierrez also underlined that as the government's continues to deploy more security forces to the area, fighting criminal organizations was not about quantity, rather efficiency.
Meanwhile, Workers' Party (PT) senator Alejandro Gonzalez Yañez stated that the fact that authorities are now finding mass graves only confirmed that they were aware of the violence that had been building up in the area but failed to do anything to prevent or fight the violent crimes.

It is believed that the victims were people who refused to enlist within the ranks of 'Los Zetas' drug cartel. On April 16, authorities arrested Martin Omar Estrada Luna, suspected regional leader of the Zetas cartel.

5/6/11...UPDATE; Further south in Durango state's capital, also called Durango, authorities said Friday they had recovered 11 more bodies at a series of mass grave pits, bringing the total number of bodies found in a monthlong search of the pits to at least 157.

The pits are believed to hold the remains of drug cartel victims, possibly including executed rivals.

5/6/11....25 additional bodies found in Durango bringing total to 144...DURANGO CITY

Police have not yet accused anyone over the killings, which appear to have been part of the country-wide wave of drug violence that has killed nearly 35,000 people since the launch of a military crackdown in late 2006.

The state prosecutor's office announced the latest find in a statement late Thursday, adding that the 25 included two women.

Gerardo Ortiz, a spokesman for the office, said remains from a total of 144 bodies have been found in sites around the town, which has been dominated by the Sinaloa cartel, one of several major gangs fighting over the drug trade.

CALDERON SENDING TROOPS TO DURANGO AND COAHUILA....
MEXICO CITY – Mexico's government is sending hundreds of soldiers and federal police to a northern region where drug cartel violence has been on the rise and a prominent businessman was recently killed.

The Interior Department says the forces are going to the Comarca Lagunera area straddling Coahuila and Durango states.

The statement issued Friday does not say how many soldiers and police will be deployed, but an Interior Department official says there will be hundreds. The official insisted on anonymity because he spoke before the official announcement was made.

Interior Secretary Francisco Blake discussed security with the governors of both states earlier this week, urging them to root out corruption in state and municipal police forces.

UPDATE 5/4/11....FROM ASSOCIATED PRESS..

11 Additional Bodies found in Mexico pits, total now 121

The Associated Press
Posted: 05/04/2011 07:31:44 PM PDT

MEXICO CITY—Investigators in the northern Mexico state of Durango said they found the remains of 10 men and one woman in mass graves in the state capital Wednesday, bringing the total of bodies recovered there to 121.
The Durango state prosecutors' office said in a statement that the remains were uncovered by military personnel who have been excavating at about four sites in the city, which is also known as Durango.

The search has been under way for about a month at pits where drug gangs are believed to have buried victims.

The Durango graves are the second such discovery in a month. A total of 183 bodies have been unearthed in 40 pits in the northeastern border state of Tamaulipas.

Mass graves have become an increasingly common discovery in Mexico, with drug cartels using the sites to dispose of enemies and other victims amid increased fighting among rival gangs. More than 34,600 people have died in drug-related violence since President Felipe Calderon deployed thousands of federal security forces four years ago to fight traffickers.

Authorities in Durango state say the discovery of mass graves there has not brought out many relatives of missing people, perhaps because families are too frightened to come forward.

5-3-11 UPDATE:

Durango: Police found nine plastic bags and a barrel filled with charred human remains in Mexico's northern state of Durango, officials said Sunday about the latest grim find tied to a brutal drug war.
A military patrol on Saturday discovered the human remains, which included some bones, in the town of Santiago Papasquiaro, located in Mexico's so-called "Golden Triangle" of Durango, Sinaloa and Chihuahua states, where drug traffickers grow marijuana and opium poppies.

Gerardo Ortiz of the Durango prosecutor's office said it had not yet been determined how many bodies had been charred.

In the state's capital, also named Durango, a total of 104 bodies buried in mass graves have been found so far since April 11. Most have not yet been identified.

Mass graves toll in northwestern Mexico at 104

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexican security forces exhumed eight more bodies Wednesday from mass graves in a northwestern state capital where drug gangs are believed to have buried their victims, bringing the total from a monthlong search to 104.

The search at the pit at a car repair shop in Durango city appeared finally to be over, the Durango state attorney general's office said in a statement.

A total of 87 bodies have been found in that grave, including the eight discovered Wednesday. Seventeen other decomposed bodies were found in mid-April next to a well-known hacienda less than a mile from the car shop.

The graves in Durango are the second such discovery in a month:

4/27/11  thanks kylesam, I saw this but I could not find a second independant confirmation.  I saw LA times did not have it on their 5PM update and the bodies would have been found 3 hrs prior.  Universal says so then I am going with it....

In Durango City they have dicovered seven additional bodies on Constituyentes Avenue bringing the total to 103. .  Some of the bodies were intact and complete and others skeletal remains.

The bodies found in Durango are much older that those of San Fernando.  Estimates up to 7 years of the Durango bodies, whereas many of the Tamps bodies were from the past few months.

The seach will continue in both cities.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4/26/11  PM ..Thanks to Kylesam I now have two confirmations of 96 in total bodies found in Durango.  I am hesitant to post because there is no "official" announcement.  But two reliable sources so they must know.  El Norte and Milenio so I am going with it!...Thanks again Kylesam..
I don't have time for the long translation of Milenio tonight but the short of it is:

Update

Since April 4, authorities have uncovered a total of 96 bodies from a mass grave in a division of the city of Durango known as Las Fuentes. The search for additional bodies is ongoing, and victims have yet to be identified.

Due to limited space, the Medical Forensics Service team has rented a Thermo King trailer to store the bodies.

The states of Durango, Chihuahua and Sinaloa form part of the area known as the golden triangle of drugs, and has been identified as a refuge for drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, of the Sinaloa cartel.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4/26/11 UPDATE:  The death toll also continued to mount in Durango province, in central Mexico, where 17 bodies were found in a mass grave in the city of Durango, officials said Monday. That brings the Durango death toll to 75 in recent weeks.

Divisions of the Federal Police discovered 17 additional bodies in Durango City Durango.  The total body count has increased to 75.  As of today there have been no identification of any of the corpses.  The plan is to continue searching for additional bodies for days or perhaps weeks.  Space in morgues have been maximized causing authorities to procure a refrigerated truck to store the bodies temporarily.  Responsibility for the deaths have only been attributed to
organized crime", however unlikely that it was the Los Zetas because of the locale.

and this:

over the past week in the town of Las Fuentes in northwestern Durango state has uncovered 75 bodies as of Tuesday, said Gerardo Ortiz, a spokesman for the Durango state attorney general's office.
Ortiz said the bodies appear to have been buried for anywhere from six months to six years, but authorities don't know for sure because they haven't done tests.

He wouldn't say who the victims likely were. But unlike in Tamaulipas, where states across Mexico sent reports of missing persons and families lined at up morgues to give DNA samples, no one has been calling Durango. Very few families have inquired about loved ones, Ortiz said.

He said perhaps families were afraid to come forward, but he didn't want to speculate

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE 4/22/11

A total of 51 bodies have been recovered from two locations in Durango City.  17 in la Providencia sector and 34 from La Fuentes sector.  Acting on a tip skeletal remains had been discovered at a lot, state and federal authorities launched a joint operation to search the site in the state capital.>I am not sure how they are counting but I have a total count of 47 in the past 10 days including the four found yesterday.  Investigators in DUrango are not forthcoming, but 51 seems to be the number the few reportsthat are out there is citing.

authorities are saying however that scores of families have contacted offices of the authorities wondering if their missing love one is among the dead found.  Below is video from Durango City Durango.

sorry...i miss counted there are 39 and four heads.  they are not sure of some of the heads being from the bodies but since there are only 3 the least of any scenario is 40. 10 whole bodies, 3 headless-4heads and 26 from yesterday.

Investigators found 26 badly decomposed bodies at a vacant lot in the northern Mexico state of Durango on Wednesday and said they were looking for more.

The grisly Holy Week discovery came just days after police found 10 complete bodies, three headless bodies and four severed heads in a pit in Durango, a state that has become a battleground between the Zetas and Sinaloa drug cartels.
Acting on information that there were skeletal remains at the lot, state and federal authorities launched a joint operation to search the site in the state capital, also known as Durango.

The search uncovered 26 bodies, but they were too badly decomposed to immediately identify them or their cause of death, the Durango state prosecutor's office said in a statement.

Prosecutors did not answer phone calls seeking to determine whether the bodies were found in multiple-burial pits, like the 145 bodies that have been pulled from mass graves in the border state of Tamaulipas.

While Mexican drug cartels frequently use such pits to dispose of the remains of executed rivals, many of those buried in the Tamaulipas mass graves are believed to have been passengers kidnapped from passing buses.

In Tamaulipas on Wednesday, authorities reported they had rescued 68 people, including 12 Central American migrants, allegedly kidnapped by a drug cartel.

Some were allegedly pulled off buses or abducted from bus stations by the Gulf cartel.

During this Holy Week, the most sacred of all celebration for Catholics,  migrants  protest against violence in southern Mexico & Guatemala> conducting A Via Crucis (stations of the cross). using a makeshift raft, pro-migrant activists and Central American migrants cross the Suchiate River as they participate in the  Via Crucis near the Mexican city of Ciudad Hidalgo, on the border of Guatemala and Mexico, Wednesday, April. 20, 2011. I have the count in checking 8 sources as 75  I know on the mainboard it is higher but I could not find any confirmation to that.  The official annoucement said 17 bodies were discovered yesterday bringing the total to 75, so until I can confirm differently I am sticking with that.

They wonder why people leave and risk their lives to EARN A LIVING... Everyone points to LOS ZETAS which have killed many. But Chapo has to. All of them. When the CARTELS pick families up to "INTERROGATE" them about their family ties to other cartels this happens. My bets are the Mexican gov. will play this down as just more criminals being found dead for going astray... Well if they had better OPPORTUNITIES they wouldn't get involved in this shit... Shame on you MEXICO!!! Its not in your interest for this to EVER end, right???

OMG!  YES!  You are so right.

Any hope of maintaining a win in this drug war must include, first and foremost, an education overhaul plan that would provide a quality standard education through HS from all children across the economic spectrum.  Educated children will pay off for Mexico providing a wide base to choose the best and brightest, but also a wide field of employment opportunities for its children as they become educated adults.

Its shocking to learn that the children of Mexico have among the lowest of standardized international test scores, across the board in every subject.  More tan 50% fail.  When faced with the reality of Mexico’s shitty excuse of  an education, and even more dismal are what areas of poverty and rural are offered.  Areas that teachers will not venture so projection screens with virtual teaching is used. My God, how does that work?  I have seen the facilities given to rural teachers, come in on Sunday night and leave Friday afternoon.  Makeshift sleeping quarters using a classrrom with area divisions  made of blankets , no showers so bathing is from a bucket, no kitchen, its no wonder the turn over rate is enormous as teachers quickly quit, so Mexico resorts to teachers on screen.  and this is just one example of the big fat mess Mx is in.

There is a 501C3 org in the US of Mexican-Americans helping Mexicans, I am putting something together on it, but they have an excellent, and acurate video of the system and why it matters.  Half way through the video is about their research of young criminals.  They conducted a survey of the children themselves and asked what led them down the path they chose.

Watch it..here is the video recently released:  "we should all be the owners of human knowledge" the schools depicted are schools helped by the org, NOT as they are in Mexico.  the children at the end of the video will warm your heart and should be the norm in Mexico, NOT the exception.

Could not edit but count is 104..and excavation is complete in the site they were digging..few details

More Bodies Found in Mexico’s Durango State

MEXICO CITY – Investigators found eight more human bodies in the clandestine graves in Durango city, raising to 104 the number of bodies found there this month, Mexican prosecutors said.

The clandestine graves were found on April 4 at two sites in Durango city, the capital of the like-named northern Mexican state.

The majority of the bodies have been found in Durango city’s Las Fuentes neighborhood, the Durango state Attorney General’s Office said.

The eight bodies were found in Las Fuentes, where the digging has ended because the site was “totally excavated,” the AG’s office said.

Officials have not revealed a motive for the killings or identified the victims, whose bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition.

Durango, one of the states most affected by drug-related violence, is reported to be the hiding place of Sinaloa cartel boss Joaquin “El Chapo” (Shorty) Guzman

REPORTS OF THE NEW 25 AS BEING IN THE SAME "CITY" SO i AM TAKING THAT AS DURANGO CITY.  THESE INCLUDED 2 WOMEN;

May 6, 2011
Two Mexican air force aircraft transported 252 soldiers to Torreon, Coahuila state, on May 6 as part of a deployment of hundreds of soldiers to the Comarca Lagunera region in Coahuila and Durango states, Milenio reported. The announcement of the troops’ deployment came three days after Mexican Interior Secretary Francisco Blake met with the governors of the states and discussed the deployment of federal forces.

this report says 146...this does not include the 9 trash bags of charred bones found this week..
sorry edit tool is non functional again!

Soldiers have found 25 more corpses as they search mass graves in the northern Mexican city of Durango – bringing to at least 146 the number found there in the past month.

The latest remains were of two women and 23 men – like the others, believed to be victims of drug gangs.

Nine previously recovered bodies included four people who had been strangled and one suffocated, the state prosecutor's office said.

The causes of death for the others had not yet been determined.

Durango, capital of Durango state, is the scene of a bloody turf war between remnants of the Beltran Leyva cartel, Sinaloa cartel and Zetas gang.

Mass graves have become an increasingly common discovery in Mexico, with narcotics criminals using them to dispose of enemies and other victims amid a rise in gang feuding.

190 BODIES IN DURANGO... BLAME Zs..SAY DEAD ARE INNOCENTS WHO REFUSED TO WORK FOR CARTEL

This post was updated on .
i JUST POSTED THE UPDATE ON ORIGINAL POST WITH NEWS ARTICLE

Hola Durango..

Thanks so much.  I have been ill and not on computer but got your comment on my blackberry today so just tried to get confirmation.

Wire update has it at 190 as well as two other confirmations.  I cannot confirm anything over the 190, but I am sure it will be much higher.  I will edit my post if I can get the tool to work.

Here is the thing, you are correct those hills have hundreds if not thousands of bodies.  You ask mexicans in the border area that are aware of what is happening they will say THIS is the most violent dangerous area, onlybodies dissapear.  I believe this.   But people saying they are all narcos are ignorant.  not true.  But the people are so scared to come forth.  Is it true what people are saying and writing to me about?  they say no DNA bank has been established.  Is that correct?  Tamps had one right away.  I just can't believe Durango would not.

Saludos

Its hard for me to understand,or appreciate people who will not or can not defend themselves,it's a primal instintive behavior. It is even more astonishing that any government would outlaw the publics ability to defend themselves, especially in a 3rd world jungle. Without a stable society education, commerce, taxes, prosperity all fail, there is no future. Mexico is a prime example of these failures. The horror of being ruled by criminal terrorist gangs with no protection from govt. and the govt punishing those who resist-- GUNS,TAZERS,CLAYMORES,when they come for me we will all die. Mexico needs a private Milita, armed citizens in rural areas who can defend themselves,in metro areas State and fed locals have proven to be worthless.  ARM SOME OF THE PUBLIC.   STABILIZE THE COUNTRY, Then all the social programs can be pursued.
