The story of Clara Laborín: From queen of beauty to queen of Beltrán Leyva
[LeChef: Pretty weak story, but at least fragments of info]
Clara Elena Laborín Archuleta was in the nineties the most acclaimed woman in the Mexican state of Sonora for her beauty and charisma, after being crowned as Miss. She aspired to be "a woman of society", but ended up becoming the ringleader of one of the most ruthless and ferocious organizations in the world: The Beltrán Leyva cartel.
She spent all her childhood and youth in Agua Prieta, a border city between Mexico and the United States in Sonora, where he was relentlessly blamed by the authorities for the vertiginous increase in executions and clashes between drug cartels, according to the newspaper El País.
Her life surrounded by fame and glamor took a radical turn after falling in love and becoming the wife of Héctor Beltrán Leyva, a drug trafficker who was part of the Sinaloa cartel, which was then headed by Joaquin Guzmán alias "El Chapo" .
'The Lady', as she was called in the criminal organization, was treated by her husband as a trophy, a queen, a luxury item. In 2008 Héctor Beltrán broke ties with the Sinaloa cartel, because his brother Alfredo was arrested by the Mexican military and accused Guzmán of treason. So, in response to what happened, he decided to form his own organization.
Together with his three remaining brothers, they formed the Los Beltrán Leyva cartel and collaborated with their former enemies, the Cartel del Golfo and los Zetas. They transported tons of illicit drugs to the United States and supplied the arms and ammunition market. They are also attributed to kidnappings, murders and torture.
Héctor alias 'H' went on to become one of the most wanted men by justice in the United States and Mexico. They offered millionaire sums of money for their heads. His wealthy and startling life came to an end when in October 2014 he was arrested at a seafood restaurant in the city of Guanajuato where he pretended to be a real estate agent and works of art.
The queen takes the reins
Clara Elena who had earned the respect of her cronies went on to take the reins of the organization after it was thought that it could be divided into a struggle for power. But before that episode, I had already been involved in other businesses.
For her contacts with the world of television, she allied herself with the former television host and artistic representative Guillermo Ocaña, who in 2010 was arrested for money laundering. With him she organized numerous events to promote his business of aquatic therapies.
On September 15, 2016, "La Señora" was arrested in Hermosillo (Sonora) in a joint operation between the Federal Police and the Attorney General's Office . He fell with possession of cocaine hydrochloride and gramme scales.
José Reveles, a Mexican journalist and specialists in drug trafficking issues told EFE news agency that "the arrest of Laborín is a further setback for the criminal group. So much so that, at present, it can be mentioned that it is pulverized and that it practically does not exist as such ".

The beauty queen who left the crown to run the drug cartel of her husband

The two most popular images about "La Señora": the day of her arrest and when she was kidnapped by the Sinaloa Cartel
Agua Prieta is a border city in the Mexican state of Sonora, with just over 77,000 inhabitants. Many times it has been the scene of executions and clashes between drug cartels.
On February 19, 1964 Clara Elena Laborín Archuleta was born there, a woman who would give much to talk about. During her youth she was crowned as the most beautiful of her state by winning the Miss Sonora contest. Years later, she became the wife of a powerful drug lord. But she did not settle for serving as an adornment, but after her husband's fall, she took over the reins of one of the most powerful cartels in Mexico , the Beltran Leyva cartel, which in 2008 had separated from the Sinaloa Cartel.
Clara Elena became known as "La Señora" or "Osiris" , the wife of Héctor Beltrán Leyva "El H" , who had inherited the leadership of the cartel after the death of his brother Arturo in a confrontation with federal forces in 2009, and Alfredo, another of his brothers.
Under the leadership of the "H", the Beltrán Leyva, weakened by their war with Sinaloa, had gone from more to less. Until in 2013, according to the Insight Crime agency , in alliance with Los Zetas, it resurged strongly in the northwest of the country at the same time as it was striking some blows to the Sinaloa cartel in its territory and in Sonora, a place in dispute since the separation.
But the good fortune did not last long: on October 2, 2014 the "H" was arrested, without a single shot, in a seafood restaurant in the city of Guanajuato, where he pretended to be a real estate agent and works of art.
Beltrán Leyva was one of the most wanted criminals in Mexico and the United States, who offered millionaire rewards for his head.
In Mexico, he was accused of organized crime , crimes against health, stockpiling of firearms and operations with resources of illicit origin.
The beauty queen
After the arrest of the "H" the cartel was expected to split into a struggle for control of power, but inside there was someone who had earned the respect of the allied organizations and the bloodiest assassins and bosses in of the Cartel as Fausto Isidro Meza Flores "El Chapo Isidro" , who is currently waging a war in Sonora with the sons of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán Loera.
It was the wife of Beltran Leyva, Clara Elena, who from that moment began to build the story of "The Lady", one of the few women in the world who have managed to become heads of a cartel.
Always aspired to be "a woman of society . " Thanks to her relationships as a beauty queen, in the nineties she teamed up with a former television host and artistic representative named Guillermo Ocaña, arrested in 2010 for money laundering.
Thanks to Ocaña, Clara Elena was able to organize sumptuous events, such as one in 1999 at the Hyatt Hotel in Acapulco to present her aquatic therapies business in which there were more than 600 guests, including artists, diplomats and "society" people.
Of her it was said that she was a sonorense (a person born in Sonora) of money she wanted to make known.
The relationship between Ocaña and Clara Elena, according to the former's statements to the authorities, would have begun in 1993 or 1994, when she participated in the beauty contest. Later he arranged the hiring of artists for children's parties in the cities of Hermosillo, Agua Prieta and Obregón, but they stopped seeing each other for a while.
In 1997, the former beauty queen had another business in mind: a company called Rotceh, Noticias y Espectáculos. Her first project was that Ocaña will help her launch a musical group composed of her nieces. Another of its objectives was a magazine called Jeans , but only two numbers circulated.
The artistic representative served Elena Laborín as a reference for the rental of houses and credit card applications, among others. In 2002 she moved to Spain where she opened an artistic promoter and remained linked to the Beltrán Leyva. He became the owner of hotel and ecotourism investments in Palma de Mallorca and the Riviera Maya, in Mexico.
The inexplicable growth of his fortune and profits made him the object of different investigations in Mexico and Spain, from where he constantly entered and left police stations, until 2010.
The arrival of "The Lady"
When her husband was arrested, Elena was already involved in the world of drug trafficking. In 2009 it was included in by the United States Department of the Treasury as alleged money launderer Beltran Leyva Cartel.
One year later, on April 13, 2010, an armed group abducted her outside a house under construction in Hermosillo . Thirteen days later they left her lying near the University of Sonora, tied hand and foot and with her eyes covered. Beside him there was a narcomensaje that said:
"We are going to teach you how to be a man and respect families ... Child killer Héctor Beltrán Leyva here is your wife for whom you did not want to answer, we deliver you alive and healthy so that you learn that for us the family is sacred , little man culero ".
The kidnapping was attributed to the Sinaloa Cartel and would have been in revenge for the murder of Alejandro Coronel, 16 , a few days earlier at a hotel in Nayarit. The teenager, son of the capo Ignacio Coronel was kidnapped and murdered by the Beltrán Leyva a few days before.
Before being released, the Sinaloa Cartel had sent to the Blog del Narco , a website specialized in these issues, a photo of the woman with a message, the image turned to the country and it was then that she left the anonymity and found the fame that I had always sought.
But it was four years later, when the story of "La Señora" or "Osiris" began, as it was also known, that the former beauty queen not only prevented the fragmentation of the cartel but also maintained important positions in the states of Guerrero, Morelos, Chiapas, Querétaro, Sinaloa, Jalisco, Quintana Roo, Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon and the State of Mexico.
According to the profile of the organization in Insight Crime , established alliances with the cartels of Los Zetas, Juárez and Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG).
It became one of the priority objectives in the state of Guerrero, where he was held responsible for the violence in Acapulco's tourist destination between 2014 and 2016, when he disputed the position of the Independent Cartel of Acapulco , which denounced his presence through of narcomantas.
After fulfilling the mission of keeping her husband's cartel afloat, Laborín Archuleta was arrested on September 15, 2016. Now, her photos of her when she was a beauty queen are no longer found, but those in which she appears detained by police.
