The origin of Los 35-Z in Veracruz

Since 2016, the media reported on the appearance of blankets hanging in public places in cities such as Tuxpan, Poza Rica and Papantla, in northern Veracruz, attributed to the Zetas Cartel.

In them, that criminal group warned about the appearance of a new "mini cartel" called the 35-Z, dedicated to kidnapping, theft and extortion.

Experts consulted by this means, detail that this new group is a fraction of Los Zetas that operated in the city of Poza Rica, but that was fragmented with the arrest in the state of Hidalgo of Ciro González, aka the "puchini", head of Plaza throughout Veracruz.

With his imprisonment, his henchmen were divided into two groups, "Los Puchini" and "Los 35-Z", led by two subjects nicknamed Güero Lee and El Negro Gallero.

The latter, took control of the entire north of the state of Veracruz by knocking down in a confrontation with "Commander 500", who had been at the head of "Los Puchini".

In recent weeks, this criminal group has expanded its influence in the central area of ​​the Veracruz entity, growth linked to several acts of violence in the region.

On Sunday, August 13, Yunes Linares reported that they already arrested a subject nicknamed "El 50", who was head of the 35-Z square, not only in Poza Rica, Papantla and Tuxpan, also in four other states of Mexico.

The arrest of 50

On August 13, 2018, Governor Miguel Ángel Yunes Linares reported that businessman Sergio Juan Tremari Graya was killed on August 3 by mistake, since the hitman wanted to kill a guard of the bar "La Bamba", however as they both wore black, he was confused and killed.

The Government of Veracruz offered 1 million pesos for three other criminals belonging to the 35 Z cartel, related to the case.

In a press conference he said that from an effective intelligence work, he was able to identify the material author of this crime, Andrés N, aka “The Five”, who was already investigated and was identified as the material author of this crime.

When presenting a video of the day of the events, this individual is observed approaching the site of the homicide, with a cardboard in his hands, which was the same that left the crime on the consummate body, and under which he carried a weapon.

"This individual was the main leader of the band" 35 Z "in Poza Rica, Andrés N., already arrested."

The president added that this subject was the head of hit men of said criminal gang in the northern part of the state and based in Poza Rica, Tuxpan and Papantla, and charged with charging land rights to entrepreneurs in the region and his superior command was Ricardo N, aka "The Fifty", who is already detained and was the intellectual author of this crime.

“It is very important to note that this individual, 50, was not only the intellectual author of the crime that we have already referred to, but that he is the most important leader of the 35 Z band, not only of Veracruz but of four federative entities, has fallen and we are pleased to inform the people of Poza Rica that he was arrested who terrorized the population of that area . ”

He added that, in his statements, Andrés N., reported that Ricardo N. ordered him to kill a person in black who was the guard of the place, “unfortunately Mr. Tremari who had nothing to do with criminal activities wore the same color as clothes and was on the outskirts of this bar ”.

With both arrests, seven members of the criminal gang are behind bars: Maurilio N., aka "The Stones", lieutenant of Ricardo N; Miguel N., Luis Manuel N, Jorge N and Luis N.

Currently, the 35-Z dispute the Plaza de Veracruz among 7 other groups, including the  Jalisco Cartel Nueva Generación (CJNG), Los Zetas, Los Zetas Vieja Escuela, Los Zetas Sangre Nueva, Grupo Sombra, and the Cartel del Golfo.

Thanks for sharing, nice read.

Is that why the Mata-Zetas dumped 35 bodies in Boca del Río several years back? Perhaps sending the group a message? I think there were two incidents of this nature with the exact same count: 35. One in a major avenue and another one inside a house days later.

@MX: Good observation. I never thought about it, but it is very plausible. That massacre did not happen by chance so there is a good chance you are correct there.
