The history channel aired a program last night mentioning the "Monterrey Massacre"
Last night the History channel aired a program about the situation in Mexcio, there was mention of the recent occurrences , including the Casino fire, just a few minutes ago HLN, (Headline News) aired a program about operation fast and furious , HLN typically airs the same thing over and over ...it looks like the American public is going to be hearing more about Mexico soon, that is not a good sign, especially for anyone who is opposed to increased US involvement in Mexico
wish I could have seen it, I don't get to watch much TV but if I know something is coming I DVR it.
my TV vices Dancing with the stars and AI....jeje
It would be a good thing if Mexico's issues were widely broadcasted but I agree with Bones it won't make much difference in the climate of our society. in this woeful economy people are without jobs and those types who are prejudice take advantage of the situation and pound home the idea that Mexicans are taking jobs away and draining our society of resources. so there becomes a growth of prejudice and distain about anything Mexican.
I say bring back the tenmporary workers program. it was highly sucessful and what we learned in the process we can redesign the program. the Bracero program ran until its expiration in the 60s. If we had it the workers would be taxed just like any other worker in the US. and we could have better control, and vigilence on migrants activites and logistics. it would be easier to define and locate those coming over to conduct themselves in illegal activites. Plus we need the migrants. our economy needs that classification of worker for a variety of jobs. or businesses cannot thrive in the global economy of today.
So I think any subject raised about Mexicans or Mexico automatically turns folks off because of the immigration issue. one can argue if/if not spill over has begun, but when it does, full bore, is when US will finally want to learn more. In this case Americans are like Mexicans they do not want to hear about the drug war.
In mexico the majority of citizens favor US money and training (70%)
but have always stated they don;t want US troops. something I reject because if my interaction with
Mexicans of all walk of like asking when US will come and fight the narcos, yes I know unscientific but it is what I have found.
but recently the % has jumped in favor of US troops to double it is now just under 40%
Mexicans support Calderon but say his planned has not worked and he needs a new one (duh) but that they favor military intervention in the drug war fight.
The way I see it.... the more people that don't like me, the less people I have to please
