Question about “El Mayo” and his moniker...

Is it pretty much confirmed at this point that ‘El Mayo’ is just a nickname for Ismael, or does he perhaps come from actual Mayo heritage?

The Mayo (or Yoreme) are an indigenous group living in the states of southern Sonora, northern Sinaloa and small settlements in Durango. The term Mayo (in the Yoreme language) translates to “the people of the river bank" and is probably referring to the Mayo River.

Considering the Yoreme are very much a “people of the bush”, as Mayo once claimed of himself and family, it leads me more to believing that he is of Mayo (or Yoreme) descent..

It matters not how a man dies, but how he lives.
