Mireles said that the members of the self-defense groups are afraid to leave their arms
The leader of the self-defense forces in Tepalcatepec, Jose Manuel Mireles, threatened with a total blockade of the state of Michoacan, if the members of such groups in prison are not released.
“If by May 10 all the self-defense members arrested for using a gun to defend their lives and that of their families are not released, we are going to block the state of Michoacan”, he said in an interview with broadcasting group Radio Formula.
Mireles reiterated the fear of the community police members about leaving their guns and said that one of them was shot by someone on a motorcycle.
He requested again the legalization of the movement, because of their compromise with restoring the rule of law in the state.
Since the beginning of April, the commissioner for security and integral development for Michoacan, Alfredo Castillo, announced the soon to be disarmament of the community police groups and the removal of blockades.
Castillo added that when the disarmament and the registration of the members of the self defense groups concludes, all civilians with guns would be arrested.
Unfortunately, if they block the roads - as suggested -they will be viewed as another renegade band of people in Mexico. This will play well internationally as the government suppresses the "uprising".
