My cousin works in Monterrey, and it really is, or was, a fantastic city. Things have just gotten pretty dicey in the last two years.
I hope this helps lighten things up, but who knows. The Golfo/Zeta war has really screwed Regios you know where. |

Cool, I might be living down in Monterrey at that time. I'll have to let some of my friends down there know about it.

I travel there from time to time myself and can tell you that although I love the city, it is not fun looking over your shoulder all the time.
For those that live there, is it life as usual or have you changed your habits at all considering? Hopefully the MTV event goes off without a hitch though - Mexican living in Monterrey could use a dose of fun for a change. |

Monterrey is not what it used to be, we all know. I have been increasingly a bit more on edge with every visit and every pass through. It is kind of hard not being paranoid when so many stories of the past year take place in monterrey or the environs and I'm not even bringing up the stuff people I know tell me. But I'm not a narco and don't hang with narcos. So that helps but still.
An event like this would pretty much be like a small, short version of the Pope visit. Gulfos and Zzzzzzz would most likely try to sit it quietly out and not turn the city into an international event that could mar Monterrey for visits for a long time. |

@ Havana
Thanks for your input and it is well received. I would think that the event would put them on the map, so to speak, if carnage ensued. More like a statement than anything. Why do you think they would sit it out though? A shame though b/c it is a gorgeous city. My old man used to go into the Plaza as a kid to do that one type of dance (not sure of the name) lol Oh, how the times have changed. |
