Juarez cartel possible for Miroslava Breach's death

OEM-Informex Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Mexicali

CHIHUAHUA.- Journalist Miroslava Breach Velducea was shot dead outside her home this morning in Colonia Las Granjas, in Chihuahua.

Breach was aboard her truck and accompanied by her son, who she was driving to school, when a subject approached the driver's window and shot her eight times with a .38 caliber weapon. The journalist died when she was transferred to a hospital.

The murderer of Miroslava Breach left a card with a message after firingatn the journalist, a fact confirmed by the state's governor, Javier Corral Jurado, who merely said that the message is part of the investigation of the facts.

On that card, it is presumed, there was a message about the murder of the journalist and a warning against the same governor Javier Corral, and it was signed by Arturo Quintana, alias "El 80", leader of the Cartel de Juarez in the area of Namiquipa.

"They collected a card that was left in the flight of the one who appears as a material author, in the set of investigations, I have asked them to analyze the contents of that card and the message," he said.

He pointed out that, in order to keep the course of the investigation proper, he could not mention anything else.

Miroslava received threatening messages

Governor Javier Corral said that the journalist had received messages of threat and also two years ago, when he was a senator, she personally told him that she had received threats for reports from the sierras.

Corral Jurado visited the two sons of Miroslava and his sister this morning and it was during this visit that they were told that he had received threats. Faced with this situation assured that they are already investigating and the line of research is for their journalistic work.

During a press conference held around 4:00 pm, Corral decreed 3 days of mourning in Chihuahua for the murder of the correspondent of La Jornada in Chihuahua and collaborator of El Heraldo de Chihuahua, belonging to this publishing house.

The governor condemned the attack and promised that it will work in coordination with the journalist guild to find those responsible, both intellectually and materially.

The media unite to condemn murder

This morning the NORTE newspaper of Ciudad Juárez issued a statement condemning and mourning the death of their partner.

"Clinging to their ideals, today we raise a claim for justice for a death that should not have happened, for a family that has remained in orphanage, for a guild injured, overwhelmed by criminal and institutional violence. Miroslava was an exemplary journalist, rigorous in the professional work, integral, of great values, a woman of struggle.

"Extraordinarily professional, particularly supportive of women who exercise the profession of journalism and with whom she shared unit of workspaces. We have no doubt that the bullets that harvested the life of our dear companion are products of the exercise of her professional activity.

"Mr. Attorney of the Republic, Mr. Governor, the journalists of NORTH of Ciudad Juárez demandethe clarification of the crime of our fellow journalist Miroslava Breach Velducea, and punishment of the perpetrators. Convinced that the crime against her is also a crime against society, we join the demands of justice that are already expressed throughout the state and in the country, and very sentimentally those of her family, "they explain.

During the session today, journalists from different media outlets came to the rostrum to demand that the Government clarify the murder of Miroslava and the creation of protection mechanisms for newspaper workers.

It was the journalist Cesar Ibarra who took the microphones and said that Miroslava was characterized by telling the truth and also highlighted the death of GRD journalist, Adrián Rodríguez.
In this regard the deputy Marisela Torres, said she said she is tired of finding murdered journalists, but also of many citizens who lose their lives for control of the plaza. In view of this he demanded the prompt clarification of Miroslava's assassination.

Green Party deputy Alejandro Gloria said: "it is enough to return to the same conditions, did not we learn anything?"

CEDH will initiate an ex officio complaint

The president of the Chihuahua State Human Rights Commission, José Luis Armendáriz González, recalled that during the message of his report (on January 26), he emphasized the need to evolve legislatively, on the comprehensive system of protection of journalists.

Armendáriz González lamented the murder of Breach and expressed his condolences for her children, relatives and friends, as well as the union of journalists and announced that the CEDH will initiate an ex officio complaint and will follow up the lines of investigation of this case.

He also informed that the agency will hold a technical working table, where journalists are summoned to listen to their requests and needs and to be able to create real and functional protocols.

The international press turns to Chihuahua

The international media highlighted in the pages the note on the murder and also punctuated the deaths of Adrian Rodriguez in December and another reporter from Veracruz just a week ago.

"Another journalist was murdered in Mexico" was like El Espectador, Colombian newspaper, titled the news accompanied by the following paragraph: The victim is Miroslava Breach, who worked for the newspapers "La Jornada" and "Norte de Juárez", is the third Journalist killed in a month. Her body was found Thursday in a vehicle with multiple bullet impacts.

Within the body of the note, he emphasizes that the last subject for Miroslava was the armed conflict between the leaders of the criminal group that work in Cuahtémoc.

Another international medium that published in its Spanish version the death of the journalist was Vice News, which has a presence in 36 countries and with a wide network of collaborators, VICE News aims to spread stories from all over the planet.

There's an El 80 from Sinaloa named Rolando Ángulo Meza. However, this article is referring to an El 80 out of Chihuahua named Arturo Quintana. Also, I think the escapee was El 20, no? I might be wrong.

Glad you appreciate the translations. There have been a number of interesting things that have happened that have flown under the radar, and its interesting reading everyone's comments.

They killed her because she wrote that the PRI will ensure the security of El 80.

The note left near her car said "Por Ocicona"

For readers that don't speak Spanish, "por ocicona" means for being a big mouth. The silence emanating from Los Pinos is deafening. By not speaking out against the continual violence being carried out against Mexico's news media by drug cartels or dedicating federal investigative resources to solve the murders of reporters, it is as if the Mexican government, the PRI in particular, is giving tacit approval for the cartels to continue their murderous ways. The PRI can ill afford to have the public learning of how deeply ingrained they are with the same criminal organizations that they profess they are combating. Yet, if one were to piece together all of the stories written by various reporters in every Mexican state, a clear picture would begin to emanate that illustrates just how deeply ingrained the drug cartels are in Mexico's political scene at every level.

This a.m. a narco manta directed at Governor Corral was found hanging from a pedestrian bridge in the capital Chihuahua.

"Just so you know.  Corral, if you keep sending your little helpers, I'll kill all of them.  You wanted a war, now you got it.  I'm protected by someone more powerful.  Also, these loudmouth journalists shouldn't get involved with things that don't concern them, in a war they can't win, because I'll kill them all.  Sincerely.  El 80."

@ Nutcase:

Your article is from March 2016, not 2017.  Supposedly he was arrested in Oct. 2016, also, but this article says this Oct. arrest is not confirmed, and the March 2016 "arrest" was not true:

"El pasado mes de marzo, una versión del supuesto arresto de los dos delincuentes en esa ocasión a manos de elementos de la Secretaría de la Marina, también circuló; pero posteriormente trascendió que no habían sido detenidos."

During his campaign for Governor last year, Corral specifically stated "80" had never been arrested.   After the election, as Governor-elect, Corral warned "El 80" he had 72 hours to leave the state.

"El pasado mes de agosto, en su carácter de gobernador electo, Javier Corral, lanzó un ultimátum expresando que a partir de que asumiera el gobierno, habría de limpiar la sierra del narcotráfico y que “El 80” contaba con sólo con 72 horas para irse de Chihuahua."

Editor also said another reason they were shutting down after 27 years was unpaid Government invoices.http://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/reporting-is-so-dangerous-in-mexico-that-a-27-year-old-newspaper-is-shutting-down/ar-BBziont?li=AAggFp5&ocid=iehp
