Imagine US supplies of illicit drugs were interrupted for one year

itsmeagain
Imagine the DEA/FBI/CIA and all other police suddenly stopped the supply of all illicit drugs to the US. What would happen?
Would the courts become half empty?
Who would the cops arrest to justify their existance?
Would all the users begin boozing like crazy?
What would be the effect on drug and crime infested communities?
Would its inhabitant begin thinking about other issues like inequality and social justice?
What would happen to the banks?
Would most of the hookers disappear?
So many questions so much uncertanty.

I think one thing is for sure though: the boat in which those in power today sit, would begin rocking in a most unpleasant way for its occupants.

How on earth would that happen? Even hypothetically speaking.

First, that wouldnt happen. Someone would fill the vacant spot. But speaking hypothetically, I think the cops would stay without jobs. And yes, courts and jails would decrease by half.

It is an interesting question. One Ive never thought about.Bet you crime would drop a lot but I would bet there would be more sales in liquor stores and more taxes paid hence.

I think all of you are smoking too much of that stuff they are growing in Washington state or you are reading too many books like Alice in Wonderland or Grimms fairy tales..

Otherwise you would not even be able to imagine such a far fetched idea.

There is plenty of weed to supply the domestic demand, Meth would be produced locally and by users, heroin addicts would switch back to scripts and coke users would be out of luck. Things wouldn't really change all that much. Addicts would still get their fixes.

The earth revolves around the sun, gravity holds things to the earth, 2 plus 2 is 4, addicts will always find a way to get the money for their fixes.

Cops would still have plenty of people to arrest. Drug addicts usually have a chemical imbalance in their brain, or grew up in a childhood of trauma. Simply removing the drugs wont change their way of life. Drugs are simply a symptom of the psychological problems present. Of course there would be less crime, maybe even cut in half, but it certainly wouldn't vanish. The vast majority of arrests are involving alcohol, so police would still have their hands full.
