It always stirs controversary but this is why America's borders should be CLOSED. The governors of Az and Tx should fly all these people to Washington DC. Go illegally into to Mexico get prison time, go illegally into America and you will get free healthcare, education, etc and you won't have to pay a dime for it. America is on a serious downward spiral.
To make it clear I love the country of Mexico, and everytime I have gone I have found the people to be amazing, kind, and fun to be around. I just can't see how a nation that essentially already a welfare state can support open borders as well. Its simply impossible.
A majority of these kids are fleeing three of the most dangerous countries in the world, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. Those three nations capitals are also among the most deadly capitals in the world.
Most of these kids already have family here in the US. Many have parents in the US who made them wait until 14 or 15 to make the journey.
A combination of some of the southern Mexico trains being repaired, youth taking advantage of "group discounts" with smugglers, and the rumors of eased US policy, this has become a prime time to get to the US.
These kids are NOT bringing drugs into the US or joining gangs. They are trying to avoid those drugs and gangs by leaving their dangerous homes.
What is strange is many who are upset about the plight of these children oppose any measures to alleviate the situation.
While large numbers of unaccompanied minors are a relatively recent occurrence, it has been recognized for years that we need to reform our immigration system in a way that brings immigrants out of the blackmarket underground economy that is unhealthy for everyone and the affected communities.
Without immigration reform, businesses will continue to make do the best they can, and illegal immigration will continue to be encouraged.
It's ironic that those who most oppose immigration, are doing the most to encourage illegal immigration.
Those that say, don't know. Those that know, don't say.
Children can't apply for visas, even if there were good reform, it would be for working. Those being sent or coming on their own at the ages of 14, 15, 16 (in hopes of helping large families back home) couldn't apply anyway. Reforma inmigracion o no.
Seriously, the UN needs to drop kick the so-called Presidents of Mexico, El Sal, Guatemala, & Honduras, etc. for their inability to establish stable societies. Either drop kick some sense into them or name their countries Failed States.
It's a catastrophe and a dayum disgrace to have your citizens fleeing their home country like refugees.
@K Mennem Thanks for a voice on reason amidst the haters.
I'm not sure what TNL's purpose is in posting all of these inflammatory links from the likes of the fucking Washington Times, Andrew Breitbart and Rush Limbaugh. There are a few links from respectable news sources, but most are from these immigrant and Obama hate mongers.
This site is supposed to be about Mexican drug cartels.
I am so sick of the hate-filled rhetoric from the right wing of the US. Everybody except Native Americans are immigrants!
And the illegal immigrant problem is certainly not new to Obama.
But what it is is tragic... that the majority of these kids would come from central America to escape the blinding poverty and corruption in their countries is really tragic.
And yeah, to whoever called the US a welfare state in this thread... your are absolutely correct...
it is a corporate welfare state... trillions of dollars are lost to the American economy every year from offshore bank accounts and corporate tax loopholes and giveaways.
Choco: I agree with parts of what you say and disagree with others.
I sampled some of the links and found relevance to BB's liberal history in posting items. To me, the flood of kids from Central and South America is VERY pertinent to the violence, illicit drugs smuggling, money laundering, governmental corruption, humanitarian issues, etc, etc, that are attached to the core issues that are commonly seen on BB. Remember the dramatic San Fernando ZETA Massacre of Central Americans.... lots of seemingly "unrelated" things and factors had to have happened before those poor souls were grossly massacred in a rancho barn.
I, have no problem reading views from diverse sources and readily dismiss those that seem tainted or corrupted in some way(s). I try not to be a gullible reader, and have developed a BS detector that works for me. Sometimes, I don't finish articles because my BS detector begins to flash red lights. Also, sometimes I give article a chance to develop something I can use or learn from. About 1/2 the time, my patience is rewarded because some gem is hidden in the dross. Also, I often gain valuable insights from the reader's comments that articles stimulate. I especially enjoy readers comments and reports right close to the action. These often have a blunt "ring of truth" that seems to corroborate or refute the work of professional journalists and reporters.
Finally, to restate things a bit, the narco-world is very complex and distorted by smoke and mirrors machinations that it should not surprise us to see subtle to indirect relationships between seemingly unrelated or remote things attached to the narco-world.
One little example while I am at it. Some years back, my wife and I were invited to a wedding in Mexicali. My friend's boyfriend drove down from LA in his late model Buick and we had a wonderful time and were treated royally. I should mention that my wife and I were real "tapados" (lame, ignorant) at the time. Just before crossing into Mexico, the boyfriend gave some excuse and got out to walk across. He asked me to drive his Buick into Mexico. It was so slick and after his kindnesses, I felt obligated to do as he suggested. So, I did, basically thinking nothing of it.
After a great time with dancing to Banda, eating all kinds of foods, drinking, etc. we headed back to the LA. Again, our friend's boyfriend asked me to drive the car through the border crossing. No problem. I did.
So, what is my point in writing the above incident...Can you guess?
