Federal forces hit back - 19 kidnappers nabbed in Matamoros
19 people linked to the el Gordo Cherry from CDG Matamoros were transferred to DF, accused of being kidnappers.
After a week of deployment of federal forces to combat kidnapping in Matamoros, three people were rescued and 19 arrested, identified as alleged members of the Gulf Cartel.
Among those arrested are three leaders of the cell, who work under the orders of Odón Azua Cruces, aka "El Gordo Cherry", Head of plaza in Matamoros, according to internal reports of the Tamaulipas coordination group.
Renato Sales Heredia, National Commissioner of Security, said yesterday in a press conference that this past weekend the federal police (PF) stopped 23 members from two criminal gangs dedicated to the abduction of employers and migrants, operating in Veracruz and Tamaulipas.
In one of the operations, 19 suspected kidnappers, including two minors and a woman, were caught in a safe house in Villa Española, in Matamoros.
The Federal PF released three victims, who had hands and feet tied, and confiscated five guns and several packages with drugs.
"The people who were rescued stated that their captors had been communicating with their family members to demand sums of money in exchange for not killing them", Sales added.
The authorities found the safe house after receiving an anonymous complaint.
On 7th of November, Reforma published that Matamoros was seeing a wave of kidnappings. Two days later, the governor of Tamaulipas, Egidio Torres, announced that a special group of federal forces would come to the border town to combat kidnapping.

@C-Ja: I hope so, but don't you agree that there has been a lot of improvements regarding government action? I think it is a positive sign that federal forces respond just 2 days after Grupo Reforma brings the situation to light.
Rumor has it that Fuerza Tamaulipas has sided with "El Meme Pelon" and is helping him by taking out underlings of "El Gordo Cherry". Supposedly three of those arrested were cell leaders. It is also being said that the wave of kidnappings unleashed by "El Gordo Cherry" caused many others within the CDG to not support him. On a side note, here are a couple of alleged pictures of him:
