El Chapo's sons 'hiding out in cartel stronghold' to avoid devastating war
Daily Star EXCLUSIVE: Both Ovidio and Ivan Archivaldo Guzman are reportedly laying low after a battle with government forces in the city of Culiacan
El Chapo’s sons are reportedly hiding out in their Mexican cartel stronghold to avoid a bloody gun battle.
Back in October, one of the drug lord’s children – Ovidio Guzman – was detained in the city of Culiacan by the military.
Gunfire broke out between Sinaloa Cartel members and the army, and the government eventually agreed to release Ovidio, 28, to avoid further bloodshed.
Ovidio’s half-brother Ivan Archivaldo Guzman was reportedly behind the assault on security forces, a top Mexican official claimed.
However, the pair of them are now laying low after the latest confrontation.
Duncan Wood, Director of the Wilson Centre's Mexico Institute, told Daily Star Online: “Normally, what happens in these cases is that the capo or the leader will take a lower profile position afterwards just because they are trying to find a place to hide.
“Despite the fact that in the end it turned out to be a victory for El Chapo’s sons, it was a very expensive operation.
“They don’t want to have to do that on a regular basis, it’s much better that they stay in hiding, or secluded.”
“In Culiacan and Sinaloa, people know who they are. They probably know the places they frequent.
“The most important thing to come out of this is that it exposed their vulnerability.”
El Chapo led the Sinaloa Cartel for decades, growing it into one of the largest criminal organisations in the world.
Having escaped from prison twice, he was finally found guilty by a jury in February of trafficking tonnes of cocaine, heroin and marijuana after being extradited to the US.
Since his imprisonment at the US Penitentiary, Administrative Maximum Facility in Florence, Colorado, leadership has fallen to Guzman’s ex-partner Ismael El Mayo Zambada.
The discrete 71-year-old has evaded arrest for decades.
El Mayo is now reportedly at loggerheads with Ivan and another of Chapo’s sons Jesus Alfredo, otherwise known as Los Chapitos (Little Shorties).
Gunmen working for Los Chapitos are reportedly defecting to El Mayo as rumours of an imminent conflict gather pace.
Ivan and Jesus have already attracted unwanted attention to the cartel.
In 2016, they were kidnapped by a rival gang in the state of Jalisco and had to be bailed out by El Mayo.
They later went to war with their dad’s former right-hand man, Dámaso López Núñez, before he was extradited to the US in 2018.
Both of them are also on the radar of US law enforcement.
Jesús is on the DEA's most-wanted list, and both he and Iván already face drug trafficking charges in the US.

I agree they always fighting and war is approaching kinda like the Misses saying she won't over react....Ain't gonna Happen.
I actually think it's more likely they Defect to the Chapitos as Mayo ain't long for this world and Chapos kids have shown they can survive and Rule....IMO
