Tuesday, October 16, 2:08 AM SAN DIEGO The daughter of one of the world’s most sought-after drug lords has been arrested on suspicion of trying to enter the United States on someone else’s passport, U.S. officials said Monday. Alejandrina Gisselle Guzman Salazar was arrested Friday at San Diego’s San Ysidro port of entry and charged with fraud and misuse of visas, permits and other documents. Two U.S. officials said Monday that she told authorities her father was Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, leader of Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the arrest publicly. A woman under that name has been charged in federal court in San Diego. Kelly Thornton, a spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney’s office, said she could not confirm that the woman charged was Guzman’s daughter. The complaint said Guzman Salazar attempted to enter the country on foot, presenting a non-immigrant visa contained in a Mexican passport. The arrest and investigation were being led by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which oversees the nation’s largest border crossing in San Diego. The Sinaloa cartel, named after the Pacific coast state of the same name, controls trafficking on the border with California and has in recent years successfully battled rivals to expand east and west along the 2,000-mile-long U.S.-Mexico border. The Los Angeles Times reported last year that Guzman’s wife — former beauty queen Emma Coronel — traveled to Southern California and gave birth to twin girls at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, north of Los Angeles. The newspaper said Coronel, then 22, holds U.S. citizenship, which entitles her to travel freely to the U.S. and to use its hospitals. APNewsBreak: Daughter of Mexican drug lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman held in San Diego Article by: ELLIOT SPAGAT , Associated Press Updated: October 15, 2012 - 8:12 PM Guzman Salazar hired Jan Ronis, whose roster of clients with links to organized crime has included Benjamin Arellano Felix, the fallen leader of the eponymous drug cartel that was one of Mexico's most powerful. Ronis said he was just learning about the case and declined to comment on the charges. The complaint said Guzman Salazar attempted to enter the country on foot, presenting a non-immigrant visa contained in a Mexican passport. She told authorities that she intended to go to Los Angeles to give birth to her child. The significance of the arrest will depend on what Guzman Salazar can tell authorities about her father, like whether she can provide phone numbers, said David Shirk, director of the University of San Diego's Trans-Border Institute. "We don't know exactly what she knows," said Shirk. "It may just be an interesting factoid in the war on drugs or it could be a vital clue for law enforcement ... This is the kind of random development that could potentially shift the tides." The Sinaloa cartel, named after the Pacific coast state of the same name, controls trafficking along much of the U.S. border with Mexico, particularly in western states. The Los Angeles Times reported last year that Guzman's wife — former beauty queen Emma Coronel — traveled to Southern California and gave birth to twin girls at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, north of Los Angeles. The newspaper said Coronel, then 22, holds U.S. citizenship, which entitles her to travel freely to the U.S. and to use its hospitals. "You kind of surmise that there's some family connection back to Southern California," Eric Olson, associate director of the Wilson Center's Mexico Institute said of the daughter's arrest. The arrest and investigation of Guzman Salazar were handled by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which oversees the nation's largest border crossing in San Diego. A bail hearing was scheduled Oct. 25. http://www.startribune.com/nation/174284021.html?refer=y |

I agree, plant a chip in her and set her free. Same with his wife when she was here popping a kid out on my tax dime!

@Chivo; you said all the Guzmans US citizenship should be revoked because they are all criminal scam artists and useless to the US.
If we revoked all the citizenship of criminal scam artist in the US and people that are useless to the US, we could reduce the population of the US considerably and thereby eliminate overcrowding. Unfortunately The ways to lose your natural born US citizenship are detailed in 8 USC 1481: 1.Becoming naturalized in another country. 2.Swearing an oath of allegiance to another country. 3.Serving in the armed forces of a nation at war with the U.S., or if you are an officer in that force. 4.Working for the government of another nation if doing so requires that you become naturalized or that you swear an oath of allegiance to that country. 6.Being convicted of committing treason. So I don't know how you could revoke the wife's citizenship even though she came here to have her "illegitimate monsters". The daughter is a different matter. Whether she is a US citizen or not, since she was using a Mexican passport in another name so she is guilty of presenting false documents and should be charged and tried accordingly. I don't know how far along she is in her pregnancy since I don't think any of the articles mentioned that, but she may have just been coming here to go shopping. DD
Words are powerful weapons, be careful how you use them.

DD, Presenting false documents to shop, come on man. The law ( sorry for lack of name) where your business is funded by illicit funds (just got Azul and Chapo's wives and his boys). If they had her on it (which she must not be) they could arrest her for more.

@jason. my point was her intent in coming here was irrelevant to the charge of using false papers to enter the country. As to whether she was on the list with Chapo's wife and son, it doesn't matter because they couldn't arrest her even if she was on the list (she wasn't on it) because the U.S. Treasury announced a series of sanctions against the wife and son of Joaquin Chapo Guzman, who will be considered as operators of the Sinaloa cartel.
Through a statement it was reported that Alexandrina Maria Salazar Hernandez and Alfredo Guzman would now be considered as operators of the cartel, so with these “sanctions,” the Treasury Department may seize any property and business of these people U.S.. It is not the same as a criminal charge. They don't have to charge you with a criminal offense to seize your property. It is possible this measure legally might prosecute any citizen or company doing business with them. DD

Funny thing is Chapo doesn't talk much to his daughter just sends her money through her brothers so I really don't know how much the government can get legit information from her. A couple years back you could see these narco juniors all over LA's club scene on occasion specially at Xalos Bar in Anaheim. I guess these cats have been instructed to cut down on the visits since Chapo's wife was tracked.
I wonder which narco junior knocked her up? |

It sounds like she was rushing to get out of Mexico. Could an internal war be brewing in Sinaloa? What or who was she running from?

If you are a Mexican Citizen, caught with false documentation, it's 3 months (while waiting for your court date) and then you get deported, and are ban from the US for 5 years.
If you are a US Citizen, you will be out on bond in 15 days, (while you wait on your court date). If you plea you'll probrably get time serve with 1 year probation. |
