EL CHAPO MAY BE IN HONDURAS FLEEING MEXICAN SECURITY FORCES

Is Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman hiding from the Mexican security forces in Honduras?

According to published reports, it is possible that the drug trafficker and the "world's most wanted fugitive" is hiding from the Mexican military and police forces in Central America.

According to reports by El Universal, the cartel capo from Sinaloa has been in recent weeks on holiday in Copan, a western province of Honduras. El Chapo has been hiding in several hideouts in Honduras and Guatemala, the paper quoted the comments of the regional anti-drug officials.

The Mexican army and police forces have captured or killed [22 of the 37] top leaders of organized crime, identified by the Attorney General's Office. El Chapo has always been at the top of the list of the most wanted narco-capos.

El Chapo operates in Central America

As leader of a transnational criminal organization, El Chapo has sufficient resources to hide in different countries, according to Forbes magazine which estimates that the drug kingpin has a fortune of more than a billion dollars. Such wealth allows him to operate in Honduras, Guatemala and other countries to escape the Mexican security forces, said Hector Rosada, a security analyst and former president of the Guatemalan Commission for Peace.

"He can move easily in these countries," said Rosada in an interview with El Universal. "You have such a degree of connections and contacts that allow you to move at will."

Apparently, Chapo likes vacationing in western Honduras. Informants have told the police that the drug kingpin has flown Mexicans bands to Honduras to play at parties there.

Honduran police say that they are prepared to capture Chapo

If El Chapo is in Honduras, He will be captured, said a police officer of a high rank in that country.

"The institution has no interest in protecting any offender," said Hector Ivan Mejia, spokesman for the National Police of Honduras. "This message is not just for El Chapo, but for any offender, whether Colombia, Guatemala or any other country."

"I do not think that he is moving quietly throughout Honduras without worries, because the police will catch and deport him." Mejia said. "This is the procedure to follow and that is what will be done, both with El Chapo and any other offenders who use our country as a refuge."

El Chapo may have been in Honduras for some time periods within 2009 and 2010, Honduran officials acknowledged.

Apparently the narco-capo has been seen in Copan, where it is believed he was "resting", according to published reports.

"El Chapo Guzman may have been in Honduras for short periods of time, taking a break, or allegedly taking a break because of the actions against drug trafficking made by the Mexican government," he said in February 2010 to the then Minister of journalists Security Oscar Alvarez.

Officials said there is no evidence that El Chapo is currently in Guatemala.

"It is a rural legend that El Chapo is in and out of Guatemala or travels in a helicopter, but no one could give us accurate information that this is actually happening. We are waiting for true, accurate and timely information," said Guatemala's interior minister, Mauricio Lopez, according to published reports.

El Chapo operates in Guatemala

Although there is no evidence that El Chapo is currently in Guatemala, He does operate in that country, acknowledged Lopez.

In June, Guatemalan security forces captured Alirio Walter Montejo, one of the main suspected cartel hitmen from Sinaloa , known as "El Zope".

Zope is wanted in the United States, where he is wanted on a federal indictment on drug charges. According to published reports, U.S. officials will seek his extradition.

Last year, authorities in Mexico, Guatemala and the U.S. captured or shot down more than a dozen major agents of El Chapo.

In addition to those captured or killed in the last year, another high lieutenant of el Chapo was captured in the last weeks of his extradition to the U.S..

In June, a panel of federal judges in Mexico City ruled that Sandra Avila Beltran will be extradited to face drug trafficking charges in the U.S..

Avila Beltran, known as "The Queen of the Pacific", was arrested by federal police in Ciudad de Mexico in 2007.

El Chapo has been elusive

El Chapo was captured in Guatemala in 1993 and was moved to Mexico where he was imprisoned and convicted of drug trafficking and other crimes. A judge imposed a prison sentence of more than 20 years.

In 2001, El Chapo escaped from the maximum security prison in Puente Grande after bribing a guard, according to numerous articles in newspapers, magazines and books.

According to published reports, El Chapo has eluded authorities frequently moving in and out of Mexico, apparently traveling with an army of 300 armed bodyguards.

In February, Chapo escaped from a house in a suburb of Los Cabos just before the federal police raided it.

The U.S. State Department offered a reward of 5 million dollars for information leading to his capture.

El Chapo is accused of homicide in the U.S.

In April 2012, authorities revealed an El Paso federal prosecution accusing El Chapo and 23 other alleged members of the Cartel de Sinaloa of murder, drug trafficking, conspiracy, money laundering and other crimes.

The prosecution accuses El Chapo and his organization of the murder of a boyfriend and two other members of his family in Ciudad Juarez.

In May 2010, a group of armed men stormed a Catholic church in Ciudad Juarez where there was a wedding. The gunmen ordered everyone to get to the ground and took the groom, Rafael Morales Valencia 29, a U.S. citizen. The attackers also took the groom's brother, Jaime Morales 25, and uncle.

"He was married for about five minutes and then it all happened", the father of the Morales brothers told reporters.

The victims were abducted on Friday. Their bodies were found the following Monday in the back of a truck .
The bodies showed signs of torture.

El Chapo is also accused of drug trafficking and other crimes in New York, Del Rio, Texas and Chicago.

He has been known to venture to some private beach homes in Jalisco or Colima, but I don't think he deviates much further from his comfort zone. Of course, we all know about the debacle in Cabo.

Ja ja. I also heard that sometimes El Chapo likes to hide in a suitcase or inside a locker at the Mexico City Airport.

You never know with this lil' guy.

Check under your bed, He may be hiding there too.
