Chihuahua, Chihuahua.- After paying a bond, "El 300", leader of the "Los Aztecas" criminal group, was released by authorities.
The sentence issued by the State Attorney General's Office were only for the crimes of illegal possession of a firearm and carrying drugs, in spite of criminal antecedents that indicate he as an aggressor of police bodies.
René Gerardo, alias "El 300", of 33 years, was named by the Prosecutor as leader of "Los Aztecas", a criminal cell linked to the Juarez Cartel.
Javier Corral Jurado, governor of Chihuahua, considers him a criminal of high danger, because he is related to diverse armed confrontations and the homicide of the head escort Mariano Contreras Rivera, in Ciudad Juárez.
His arrest occurred on Friday, September 15, during a special investigative operation of the Attorney General's Office (PGR) and the State Police, in a hotel located in Parque Industrial Omega.
Policemen disagree with the release
At the time of his capture, René Gerardo was carrying a .40 caliber pistol, a cartridge with 10 shots and 100 cocaine doses, crimes for which he was tried and released on bail.
In this regard, Óscar Aparicio, state security coordinator, expressed his disagreement with the sentence, since he considers "El 300" as one of the most dangerous criminals in the state.
He said that it is something that only happens in Mexico and that judges make the work of security corporations difficult by freeing criminals.
However, he indicated that they will continue working in the fight against criminal cells, although they will be reinforced before the release of the leaders.
Such is the case of José Luis, alias "El 32", leader of la Linea, who was secured a few months ago and released days later, only to later attack police and carry out armed clashes in Madera.
The murder of the escorts chief in Juarez
On September 6, 2017, Mariano Contreras Rivera, 30 years old, was gunned down in the Álvaro Obregón neighborhood.
The chief of escorts of the Investigative Police commander received at least 100 gunshots.
According to El heraldo de Chihuahua, Contreras Rivera was patrolling the area on Isla Santa Elena street, on the corner of Isla Caledonia street, when he was intercepted by two vehicles manned by several armed men, who shot the policeman.
After the attack, an ambulance was requested, but the paramedics could not save his life; his body presented multiple injuries. In that place they located around 100 spent rounds of caliber 9 mm, .40 and .223 of R-15.
Meanwhile, elements of different police corporations carried out a search operation to find the responsible, however they could only find one of the vehicles used during the assault.
The murder of Contreras Rivera is attributed to assassins under the orders of "El 300", but the reason for the murder is still unknown.
