First death in Mexico today.''
A 41-year-old México state man with coronavirus has died in hospital in Mexico City, becoming the first fatality of the infectious disease in Mexico.
The Health Ministry also said that the number of confirmed cases increased by 25 on Wednesday to a total of 118.
The ministry announced the death on Twitter just before 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, stating that the man first developed symptoms of Covid-19 on March 9 and that he suffered from diabetes.
“The Health Ministry expresses its condolences to his family. Rest in peace,” the tweet concluded.
Earlier on Wednesday night, the deceased man’s wife told reporters at the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases in southern Mexico City that all her husband’s organs had failed.
Asked whether her husband was confirmed to have Covid-19, she responded:
“They [medical personnel] told me he did but they never showed me anything, no papers or laboratory tests, but they declared that he had it. First they told me he had pneumonia because of influenza.”
The woman said that her husband had been in the hospital for five days and that he had never previously had a respiratory illness.
Asked where she believed her husband was infected with Covid-19, the woman said that it was “probably” at a concert at the Palacio de los Deportes arena in Mexico City on March 3. The Swedish rock band Ghost played at the venue that night.
Meanwhile, Mexico recorded on Wednesday its second highest number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 on a single day.
In addition to announcing that the 25 new confirmed cases increased the total number of patients with Covid-19 to 118, Health Ministry Director of Epidemiology José Luis Alomía said that there were 314 suspected coronavirus cases in Mexico, an increase of 108 compared to Tuesday.
Three Covid-19 patients were in serious condition and three others had been discharged from the hospital, he said.
There are now confirmed coronavirus cases in 24 of Mexico’s 32 federal entities.
Mexico City has the highest number of confirmed cases, with 24, followed by Nuevo León, México state, Puebla and Yucatán, where there are 19, 10, 9 and 8 cases respectively.
Alomía said that authorities had identified the spread of Covid-19 between members of two families but added that Mexico is still in phase 1 of the outbreak, meaning that the confirmed coronavirus cases are related to travel from abroad.

Today, as of 4:00 pm, USA has 19,101 cases of Coronavirus. Deaths are 244, with 83 deaths in state of Washington, senior living bearing the brunt. 244 people have died and 147 have recovered.
Mexico today as of 4:00 pm, has 164 cases, 1 death and 4 recovered.
In economics, there are a couple of things, "lost opportunity" and "emotional contagion". Lost opportunity is what drives you to the shortest line at the grocery store and elsewhere. I could be doing something else more productive. Emotional contagion is the herd's belief of exhilaration or fear. Good reference for patient readers is Charles Kindleberger's "Manias, Panics and Crashes". With Coronavirus mayhem, there are basic things you can do:
- Work remotely if you can on a computer
- Safety of employees, N95 masks, gloves preferably non-latex. (Note: since a lot of infections come from airborne droplets, at the least, dust masks are better than nothing)
- Soap and water, better than hand sanitizer, but if you need sanitizer at least 60% alcohol (Do not touch your face! the eye ducts, nose and mouth are ducts into your body) Hit it after you open the mail or door knobs where you don't have a handkerchief, paper towel, etc.)
- Cough into your elbow
- Social distancing, 3' across a desk and 6' standing. Remind others when you see them too close. Don't stand in lines shoulder to shoulder, or back to back. Tell people to move off, protect yourself.
-Disinfection of surfaces, especially if you have various people you see each day for office workers
-Temporal lobe temperature gauges or oral thermometers. As of today, no more than 101.2 as contagious
-No more than 10 people in a group, preferably MS Teams, Zoom, Slack and others who do a good job with visual and audio if remote. The 10? every other seat and disinfect surfaces before adjourning the meeting
-Hit the disinfectant if not working remotely whenever possible, or else carry your own
- Sick, go home and self-quarantine
- Elderly parents? Know you are clean and care for them, the most vulnerable
Do not get distracted by hysteria and fear, that is rampant on social media and news outlets. Take responsibility for these measures above and most likely, you'll be fine. Be glad you are alive and breathing and don't hesitate to take in the outdoors just remember these rules on the trail apply as well
Current forecasting is 7 week peak in USA with 8 week decline in the curve. Spring next year for stock market arousal and restarting capital projects.
Mexico, spring break has passed and you know the numbers. Tourism is such a huge part of your economy. It is irresponsible of AMLO and the gov't, just like the USA, not to provide scenarios and planning. Mexico, just needs to understand population/land mass comparison to the states.
Currently I am fortunate, although facing strong headwinds for making a living and my health. Anxiety, hysteria drives me crazy, when it is not based on facts and common sense.
On the other hand you do have the really sad stories; restaurants, bars, hotels, conventions, non-essential services, etc. But folks have always adapted and these events through history, can provide a ton of experience, knowledge and gratitude. Stay patient, Mexico prepare accordingly and look to getting down there sooner than later. Love the good Mexicanos, Latinos and Yankees. Stay aware, healthy and remember family foremost.

They predict the infected numbers are going to start doubling for the next few weeks.
I can speak for the numbers in Houston and they are grim. It's not so much the worry of dying, but what will the city, state, country and world look like in 3-4 weeks. Roughly 227,000 people in the fast-food/bar industry lost their job this week.
Tilman Fertitta the owner of the Houston Rockets, as well as many restaurants, casinos, and hotels, is cash broke trying to take out loans against his NBA team which has not played in weeks. Nobody is too big or small to feel this.

Mica, totally agree. Listen to sports media, but nothing to listen to, this season is gone. March Madness, Stanley Cup, NBA, Soccer.
Listen to the media and it's shrill. Wish they would stay with the facts and pre-empt some of this. Much easier to ignore and follow the rigorous instructions to each of us.
For my family;
Protect them and my fellow workers, who are family as well. Be aggressive and non-lacadasical. Take care of your brother however you may with your resources, but hold them responsible for even menial tasks. Order take-out, create new future projects and jobs that are needed now. Many needs, much gouging, there is a good middle ground that can help with the supply chain. More than anything N95 respirators, face shields, non-latex or rubber gloves.
Find, or control that supply chain now, and you will make a fair living. Contact me on my email account. I won't sell for any mark-up believe me, just for the front lines. But understand, protect your nation's own supplies as well, because that's part of the program too.
Mica, again, no one too big or small not to feel this. . . . . true :( Sixth recession for me and many hard lessons. Selling one's car for payroll? Having heat turned off for not paying utilities, waiting and waiting and waiting for oil to hit $35/barrell) but learning, moving, not borrowing figuring a way through. Anyone can do it, but move.
Nashville today: Vanderbilt college students test positive for coronavirus, encouraging on line the "shaming" of those people that party against theirselves and friends. Downtown honkey-tonks are completely shut down but almost a riot when enforced.. Bacholerette parties canceled. No hockey, b'ball tournaments and worst of all, live music. Thank goodness Willie is streaming. https://www.wsmv.com/news/willie-nelson-paul-simon-others-team-up-for-free-online/article_79a300ae-6a0b-11ea-b917-9bab0a947db9.html
Mica, no one should be cash broke at this stage or for the next three months. If so, cash mis-management, not putting away for times like these. Shame on those leaders of companies, especially with those big salaries! The others will learn, if their folks let them :). Impossible struggles and challenges only give one the confidence that everything is alright. I urge those, to make it own if you think you can. That's where the greatest lesson will come from. No parents, no friends, just until you think you can't. This is a powerful lesson and my bet is that you will, but don't just think so!
Forget your humanist socialist president AMLO. Private industry will never say firing employees, but will furlough, partially pay, but not at their demise. You kill the mother, you kill the family. Socialism has no hero, believe me.
