Another police chief murdered in Chihuahua

The Ministerial Police Commander of the Judicial District in the municipality of Guadalupe y Calvo, Gilberto Quintana Ruiz was killed in an armed attack.

Chihuahua, Chih. (Proceso.com.mx.) - On Friday gunmen executed the Ministerial Police Commander of the Mina Judicial District in the municipality of Guadalupe y Calvo, Gilberto Quintana Ruiz, 35.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on a stretch of the Baborigame to Guadalupe y Calvo highway, when commandos attacked a pick-up belonging to the Attorney General's Office in the Southern Zone carrying the police chief and another officer, who was injured.

The murderers peppered the commander and the officer with heavy gunfire and then fled.

A group of investigators from the Attorney General's office moved to Southern Chihuahua to try to find those responsible.

Guadalupe y Calvo is one of the municipalities in the state of Chihuahua that is permanently controlled by organized crime groups.

On Saturday the 12th, another state police commander was killed after leaving a bar in Ciudad Juarez.

Although not identified, the group leader belonged to the night shift of the Attorney General of the State in the Northern Zone based in Ciudad Juarez.

I'm not sure how many people are familiar with Guadalupe y Calvo. It's over the hill from Badiraguato and other Sierra communities with a long history of independence. At 2,500 meters in elevation, it's a hardscrabble place of mining and poppy production where snow is not uncommon in the winter.

When fighting flared up around Choix and to the South, Chapo Isidro's reinforcements came from here and from Sonora, with the blessings of the Carrillos.
