Chicago Police: 170 pounds of cocaine seized from kidnap victim's home

The discovery of a man bound and beaten in the West Lawn neighborhood led police to 170 pounds of cocaine and 50 pounds of marijuana in his home blocks away, according to police.

The 33-year-old man, Margarito Raygoza, also known as Jose Corona, was found by Chicago Lawn District police near 65th Street and Springfield Avenue about 7:50 a.m. Thursday. Neighbors called 911 to report the man on the ground.

Raygoza told police he had been walking near 64th Street and Pulaski Avenue when someone kidnapped him and beat him.

Chicago Lawn District police found out where he lived and went to his home. It’s not clear how police discovered the narcotics but once they realized what they had found, they notified supervisors and the police department’s narcotics division and secured the apartment.

Officers from the narcotics division obtained a search warrant and searched the home Thursday night.

Neighbors of the man, whose apartment is in the 3800 block of West 63rd Street less than half a mile west of the 8th District police station, told police they saw two men fleeing with black garbage bags early in the morning.

Police also found $47,000, 50 pounds of marijuana, 2 pounds of heroin and more than half a pound of methamphetamine.

Raygoza was charged with possession of 900 grams of heroin, possession of more than 900 grams of cocaine, possession of between 100 and 400 grams of meth and possession of more than 5000 grams of marijuana.

Also taken by police in the seizure were two handguns and three vehicles, two of which police suspect were used to transport “contraband.”

He was also found to be wanted in connection with a federal narcotics investigation and is scheduled to appear in court Saturday. Court records show he also made a court appearance Friday.

Someone is going to be unhappy. That's at least $1.7 million in coke and some change for the pot, heroin, and meth.

The guy had enough product to supply a few drugstores.

Who would have thought one of these apartments has that kind of money lying around?

Those that say, don't know. Those that know, don't say.

Yup, some people will not be happy, and not just the ones in the Gold Coast/Lincoln Park areas who had to pay more for coke this weekend....

Whoever deals with this guy from Mexico is in hot water right now with Chapo, Azul, or Mayo lol. Probably already dead for using careless people in Chi town.

That sounds like an wrenching 24 hour turnaround, theres no way out of that one, other then pleading with the neighbors to not call police, or leaving before they arrived, but he maybe didn't even get that chance.

The reasoning behind those apartments is blending in. I too have been curiois of neighbors etc "blending in". Also the foot traffic they have makes visitors incospicous to the dealings. That's nothing im sure there are worse locations/Homes that have more money lying around than these. That area by 63rd and pulaski is mostly blue collar workers with multiple families in one home. That police station they mention focuses to much to the east "Englewood". Sorry my rant on locale but i am quite resourceful on the neighborhoods.

Yeah, it makes sense to blend in, and most trafficking groups realize this.

I wonder about the guys seen leaving with the black trash bags.

Did they get most of the money and/or product, and the seizure was the tip of the iceberg?

I have to agree that it was just the tip of the iceberg what they got. Most of these narcos i believe know they are being watched so they left some "trophy" for the cops.

Funny i beleive there are still crooked cops that will tip people off, back in my day a friend who smoked would buy his weed from a cop...im sure it still happens. Chicago is a big city so these 170 pounds are probably a drop of water in the bucket in the scheme of things. Mexico is corrupt but if you look at the u.s.  corruption is there not just blatanly displayed.

There was a trial last year for some rogue CPD cops who were part of the elite gang squad (I forget the name for it??) but they ended up busting some trap houses and instead of turning in the coke and money they ended up pocketing it...

I lived in Chicago for 36 years. I've seen a lot of things and known some Chicago cops. Anyone who thinks The US is squeaky clean free of corruption is either blind or really really stupid.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience
