Looks a lot like scenes in Mexico. The mantas are up labelling them.Only thing much different is the motive.Local populace don't much like drug dealers whereas in Mexico the criminals shoot drug dealers because they are jealous or simple greed.Completely different reasons although objectives the same:to simply eliminate the drug dealers.

On June 12, 2016, I posted statements from the recently elected Phillipine President who urged his citizens to join the government in the fight against drug trafficking. He offered police officers $107,000 for every drug lord they brought in dead or alive. To the citizens, he urged them to detain or arrest suspected drug dealers but to only use deadly force as a last resort and only if the citizen had a gun. He offered to give a medal to every citizen that assisted in his initiative.

It appears that the citizens have taken his message to heart. Phillipine police officers have been corrupted by drug dealers throughout the country. Prior to the president taking office on June 30, 2016, he called for the resignation of two police generals suspected of corruption. I noticed that in a couple of the photographs there was a piece of cardboard with a name and words identifying the deceased as a drug dealer/pusher. It appears someone has taken on the vigilante role.

Well......we seen what happens when the capos are killed.

Maybe doing the opposite might do something else?

and yes I know cartels always kill little drug dealers all the time, but it it can be done more efficiently by the general population.  The general population generally always know the local drug dealers.

I was talking to some Filipinos today about their new President and all the drug dealers murdered. They said everyone loves their new President and that the Phillipines has a big drug problem because China is only 2 hours away by air so I gathered that a lot of the drugs come from there. So would that be herion, fentanyl and meth?

It's a good time to settle grudges in the Philippines. Just make sure you leave a cardboard sign on or near the body that identifies your victim as a drug pusher. And get paid for it, too!!

The thieves are not in jail because they wore a suit, tie and carried a briefcase to commit their offense. They probably stole millions from the comfort of their home or office and used a computer instead of a gun to steal. They are not in jail due to the wealth of their family or political connections that ensure they will never see the inside of a Philippine prison. These same thieves run for political office, get elected and gorge on the public coffers to amass even greater wealth. While in office, they curry favors for organized criminal syndicates that show their gratitude via bags stuffed with large amounts of cash. If this scenario seems familiar it is because in many ways it mirrors what has and continues to occur within Latin American countries.

This president is naive to believe that he can stamp out drug trafficking or the consumption of illicit drugs by arresting the people involved. Rather, his law and order efforts are further straining the nation's prisons and courts. He is exacerbating a national problem that will, at some point in the future, result in massive prison riots where untold masses will die or be seriously injured. This will cause a public outcry, negative media coverage and international condemnation of his policies whereby he will be forced to alter his approach. The Philippines will be forced to spend millions or billions of dollars to address the massive deficiencies within their criminal justice system.

When will politicians and nations learn that the illicit drug problem cannot be eradicated through arrests? Other nations have tried this approach and all they have to show for their efforts are large budget deficits.

Canada won't negociate with terrorists. It sounds harsh but you don't want to encourage them. They will probably not kidnap another Canadian.I think Robert Hall was on vacation when kidnapped. They wanted a couple of million for him so probably family couldn't pay. They held him for quite a long time like 6 months or so.Sometimes if they don't get any money or get as much as they think they can the kidnappers will 'sell' the victim to another terrorist to begin negociations all over again.
