Authorities come within minutes of capturing Sinaloa Cartel’s top boss Damaso Lopez-Nunez aka “El Lic” and his son
wo of the most powerful figures with the Sinaloa Federation including one of the organization’s top remaining bosses have managed to narrowly elude capture after Mexican authorities raided a private family party in Culiacan, Mexico, sources confirmed.
According to multiple media outlets in Mexico, a raid conducted by the Mexican Marines came within minutes of capturing Damaso Lopez Serrano aka “El Mini lic”, a reputed high-ranking capo and his father, Damaso Lopez Nuñez, known as “El Licenciado,” or “The Bachelor”, who is identified by law enforcement officials on both sides of the border as one of the top bosses of the Sinaloa cartel and close confidant of jailed drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
The high valued targets managed to escape minutes before elements Mexico Navy raided a farm in the area of Pedegral Huertos north of Culiacan, sources confirmed.
The farm is located by the highway to Culiacancito. According to Blog Del Narco, the party was attended by about 300 guests and was heavily guarded by cartel gunmen.
Marines set up a perimeter around the farm along with roadblocks around the area near the site while two helicopters circled overhead.
Officials with Mexico’s Navy called the raid an “operational inspection”. Agents reportedly questioned each of the guests, who were held for almost 21 hours.
According to multiple reports, the security detail managed to alert the capos to the presence of authorities a mere five minutes before the arrival of the Navy.
The father and son escaped from the rear of the farm along with two men in charge of the safety of cartel leaders.
Agents from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and the Marines inspected 20 luxury vehicles mostly Mercedes Benz’s parked at the farm. The Navy did not confirm whether they made any arrests.
The father and son pair lead the Los Damaso faction of the Sinaloa Federation who maintain a significant presence in Baja California.
Officials have blamed Los Damaso for the recent wave of violence in the state stemming from an ongoing war against other factions of the Sinaloa cartel for control of the vital drug smuggling plazas.
El Mini Lic is the godson of El Chapo who is somewhat of a narco celebrity, maintaining a heavy presence on social media, often boasting about his life as a narco by posting pictures of luxurious cars, exotic animals he has for pets, stacks of hundred dollar bills and beautiful women on his Instagram account.
The elder Lopez-Nunez was given the moniker “El Licenciado” or “El Lic” for short, because of the college degree he earned while studying law at the University of Sinaloa.
Lopez Nunez briefly had his own law practice before going to work for the Sinaloa Attorney General’s Office in 1991. He was eventually appointed as the head of security at the Puente Grande Prison in the western state of Jalisco, where he would strike up a close friendship with Joaquin Guzman, who had been serving his first prison term at the time.
Mexican officials credit Lopez-Nunez with helping facilitate Guzman’s 2001 escape from the maximum security prison.
As JammedUp previously reported, since January 8th’s recapture of El Chapo” Guzman, many law enforcement officials have identified Damaso Lopez Nunez as the strongest candidate to replace Guzman as the leader of the Sinaloa Federation.
