A gringo with cans goods (of Heroin) at International bridge- detained
Tamaulipas • Customs Service officers and U.S. Border Protection in Brownsville seized A shipment of three and a half kilograms of heroin hidden in cans of food .
The drugs packed in canned foods, has a black market value of $350,000.
"As aspiring suspected smuggler attempting to bring these illegal drugs into the country, Brownsville CBP officers use every tool at their disposal, to protect our borders," said Michael Freeman, director of the Port of Brownsville of CBP.
The seizure occurred on the new international bridge, when a U.S. citizen, residing in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, rode a bicycle to cross.
On his back was slung a backpack with several cans of food, but upon inspection of these, the officers noticed they had alterations. S o the cyclist, was sent to a secondary inspection and the officers opened the cans and in three drugs were found.
The officers removed three packages yielding a total weight of 1.58 kilograms (5.5 pounds) of suspected heroin.
